-32 Below Zero today! in Wisconsin

My poor TL I wish I had a block-heater for it today, but it does help I am using all synthetic fluids in the car.

Is there any way I can add a block heater to my car?

are you asking how to install an engine block heater? Or are you asking if it is possible to equip an Acura TL with such a device? Please elaborate or else we can't help you.

here's what i found from searching "engine block heater"

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...06&postcount=9

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...e+block+heater

The 3G Service Department (sticky on main 3GTL page) is a great resource. Try it out.

I thought -4 in Chicago was bad. Did it have any trouble starting up or sound rough after startup?

I get cold when it's 20 degrees, let alone -32!!!!!
That block heater into the drain plug pretty good idea. I hadn't seen one before, only replacement of core plugs.

Yeep ... Most cars up here get what they used to call a "Winter Package" which was a block heater. Mine came with one and so did My Cobalt.

Two more people from WI! Go Packers!!!
Anyway you can get a heater that you splice into your upper rad hose that heats your coolant. I had one on my civic when i lived in WY for college. Its cheaper and alot easier then a block heater but you will need a long ass cord to plug it in.

Thanks ggesq. I guess I should have looked more before posting. And I think the CEL on these cars don't go any lower than -22 cause thats the lowest I have seen yet in my car and it was way colder than that today.

My car is also from Texas so no winter package for me.

Gotta love winter! You got me beat it was only -27 here.

jhumbo: No car likes to be started when it is this cold. But i've had only minor issues starting at this cold. The engine will crank a little slower and will fire up, stumble and then die. Cranking again it fires up right away and idles fine. The MID and radio display are in slow motion though, kind of entertaining to watch as you change screens. The car makes extra creaking noises at that temp.

My car is parked in a garage at home most of the time and that was 20 above today, and i have heated underground parking at work so i am lucky there.

it's a must on all cars up here. I got it on my 3g and my 2g. If I have to plug it in at home I run an extension cord outside (if I can't park in the garage). And at work, I got an electrical outlet in front of my parking stall. It gets to -40 Celsius or even colder with wind chill, so like I said, it's a must to have an engine block heater.

I'm in WI but I haven't seen lower than -11. Thankfully the garage is heated.

Even though I'm in WI I have to say BEAR DOWN!

You can, but you really don't need it, especially if you're running 5w20 syn oil.

If you want to go the heating route, I'd go with an oil pan heater or an in-line coolant heater (as posted earlier) rather than a block heater.

Coldest reading I've seen on the MID was -8°F at Mont-Tremblant, although the wind chill that day was around -30°C. I'd love to see an MID reading from a place like Minot, ND, first thing in the morning. I wonder how low the MID can display (I've never looked in the manual to see if it says). I know it tops out at 111°F because mine has hit that reading several times, but I have no idea how low it goes.

Speaking of cold weather, I like to drive my TL without a coat or jacket whenever possible, even when it's super-cold, because the seat heater feels better that way. Anyone else do the same?

Coldest I've seen on the MID in my 5 winters up here is -18F. It's been colder, but I was sound asleep during those temps

x2. Nice to have a remote start and a pre-heated car. Jacket comes off before I get in my nice warm car...

Bleck. It's burning up down here in Indy. We're at about 2 degrees right now. -2 this morning.

Aside from excess interior rattles and occasional power steering moaning, our TLs do great in subzero weather.

There is always a rapid warming period leading up to an ice age

The lowest I've seen so far on mine is -8 and that was yesterday morning but with the wind chill it was like -25. Me and my car are both from FL and we got stuck here

THAT is why we don't complain when it's 110 here in August!!! I'll take that trade any day.
Actually, since I just came from diesel Mercedes, starting in cold weather hasn't even been on my radar. Starting a diesel in the cold can really be an adventure, especially when they are above 200,000 or 300,000 miles. My little 240D with about 315K on the engine was not a fan of starting in temps below freezing.....
