30000K HID Brilliant Blue
I'm thinking of upgrading my stock HID bulbs to a brighter and blue-er look. This guy has some in stock and he's calling them a D2-5. I know Acura calls em a D2-S. Are these compatible? He says they are but I wanna be sure he's not full of it. They are a 30000K Brillant Blue HID bulb and they look awesome in the pictures. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks fellow Acura enthusiasts!

Nope I've asked and they are blue. This is the link...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290692530046...84.m1497.l2649
I thought is was pink too. But they said no and the pictures don't look pink unless I'm tanked...
And I'm guessing they are compatible since no one has said otherwise.

Ok then...well it's not a pain for me to change em so if I don't like the look I'll just swap em back out. My girl just bought a 06 TSX and hers look more blue than mine. I will take before and after pics just to see the difference. And yes I'll post them...
Sorry Mug but I'm never satisfied with stock...mods is what drives us. We ALWAYS gots ta be tweaking our cars to be different. I'm always looking for ways to personalize my car to make it fit me and my personality like every other proud Acura TL owner on here

Three Wheelin'
at the 1:15 mark this guy demo's 30k HID's. In fact they are blue but, according to the Kelvin rating, it should be purple/pink.
I think you'll definitely get pulled over for this.

If you really are into modifications, you'd modify things so that they perform better. Like I said above, get new lenses and bend your shields, you'll get a lot of color and still keep your output. Your cut off will be super sharp. Lots of flicker and color as you drive down the road. Way more classy than the blue, purple, pink, and green I see in POS cars of all makes and types. And, you can modify the inside of your housing at the same time. Win win!

Flyromeo...I think I might too. But cops don't like us anyways so I'm sure I'll get pulled over with or without em. I'm gonna get them and let em chill until the summer. If I'm not feelin em then I'll pull em before fall.
Mug I see what your saying...they do look upscale and exotic like that. What do you mean though by bend the shields?? Never heard that. I just got my 04 last month. Looks like yours actually, but with stock chrome 5 star wheels and the A-spec package. I can't tell in your pic if yours is A-spec too.

Modding your car is one thing. But this would actually be a down grade. I think that's what they are trying to convey.
Stick between 5-10k... And if you want more buy better lenses, bend the shields, buy HIDs for your fogs, add accord fogs, accord fogs with HIDs, etc.

The 3rd gen Tl has been around for 8+ years. What you want to do is nothing new and it's been done a million times over by now. What everyone here is telling you is the truth. 30k will look like shit and the loss of lumens is going to be silly. But you don't care. You would rather take a shortcut and put a shitty hid kit in.
My advice is that before you get all butthurt and trash Canadians you take all 10 of your posts to the 3G garage and do some researching. Don't rice out your car.

You don't seem to grasp the concept of LIGHT OUTPUT.
OEM Headlights (M-Benz, BMW, Audi, any car that comes with factory projectors and xenon headlamps) is 4,300K
The reason why it comes with 4,300K from factory is because 4,300K gives out the most LUMENS.
Lumens is the measurement of how bright light is (I may have worded this wrong)
The HIGHER the LUMENS, the brighter the light output. The brighter the light output = THE MORE USABLE LIGHT FOR THE DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL.
Usable light means LIGHT THAT ACTUALLY ILLUMINATES THE ROAD VERY BRIGHTLY AND CLEARLY AND SHOWS TRUE COLORS OF ITEMS.
4,300K = 3,200-3,300 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road with it's true color)
5,000K = 3,100-3,200 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road with it's true color, but more pure white)
6,000K = 2,900-3,100 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road with it's true color but very minor slight hue of blue)
8,000K = 2,700-2,800 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road with a tinge of blue)
10,000K = 2,500-2,700 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road with blue)
12,000K = 2,300-2,500 Lumens (Lights up everything on the road DARK BLUE)
30,000K = ~2,000 or LESS THAN 2,000 Lumens....
If you want USABLE LIGHT OUTPUT as a DRIVER than DO NOT go over 6,000K. If you just want to be a teenager all over again and want "cool blue lights yo so I can show off to my friends and people I don't know" than go ahead and get 30,000K...
I know someone who has 12,000K HIDs in his headlights and when I was driving behind him in my TL he told me that my lights are so ridiculously bright they are almost blinding.
In fact he said that since he has 12,000K HIDs, everything on the road is lit up so DARK BLUE that he has to squint and he even said it himself "I can't see for shit". I told him how my OEM HIDs are only 4,300K and he immediately went to DDMTuning.com and ordered a pair of 4,500K HID bulbs to replace for his car and his moms car.
He now thanks me for telling him about it and has nothing but good things to say like how much easier it is to see while driving at night and the colors of things are so much better than everything looking blue.

My original ? was if D2-S and D2-5 are the same and to the one or two who answered that ? Thank you. I'm not ricing out my car or trying to be a teenager lol...my car is going to remain pretty stock. I have the original A-spec kit and rear wing. That will stay. The wheels are OEM chrome 5 star wheels. I'll keep those too. The stereo and navi will reamain too. I'll probably put a K&N air filter in it but no cold air or exhaust or headers. No paint jobs racing stripes or decals. It's still going to be more luxury than anything. I'll probably even keep the original headlights because im not feelin the clear. I didn't asked to be judged or labelled. We all have our preferences and likes and I get that. People have to understand not everyone is like them. How boring would that be??!! Haha. Thanks for the productive advice and tips guys...to all who gave it. Sorry to all the Canadians I offended. Not butthurt homie. Actually excited there's a site like this to help fellow TL owners with their ?'s and a site where we can talk and boast about our cars and how we've personalized them. Take care peeps...

Forget my opinion of it... You're losing over half the light output and you're going to blind oncoming drivers. I HATE people with these lights. I could care less what your car looks like but having to deal with being blinded on the way to work every day because someone thinks it looks cool is retarded. I always return the favor with my brights. Why should other people suffer because you choose to run an illegal pink light? The cops in Modesto should put an end to it pretty quick though. It's a downgrade, why would anyone want to downgrade? Maybe your next mod should be a B16 from a Civic.

IDK why people are so freaking obsessed with lighting! most people out on the road dream of having headlights like our stock projectors....forget the lights its time to look at the performance section

The higher Kelvin rating you get, the less light is actually put on the road. I had 8000k and couldn't see shit at night when it was raining. Now I hve 6000k and it's a perfect blend of function and "flash".
8000k...
6000k...

6000k...

Something is missing...my
I wouldn't go over 6000k EVER. I wouldn't even use 6000k personally, but to me beyond that is defeating the purpose of the projector.
As was posted above, bend the shield and/or get a zkw lens if you want more color above the cutoff (which is why the market of high K ratings began anyway, because of the prism emitted above the cutoff shield)
To OP ? the reality is that the bulbs are probably low quality (and will likely not last long), the reason they are called D2-5 is because they are likely not a D2-R or a D2-S. The baseplate of the bulb has both cutouts so that it will fit into either setup.

1.) You won't see shit at night. Only thing worse would be red. God save you if you get in a night time accident; insurance won't pay if they decide you intentionally impeded your ability to see.
2.) You'll be a cop magnet. Blue lights (and red) in the front are illegal pretty much everywhere.

IDK why so many people on here are interested in swapping out the excellent stock HID bulbs for crazy color temperature ones. All you're doing is ruining your headlights.
Replacing your stock bulbs with 30,000k ones because you think it looks cool is as dumb as putting square tires on your car because you think it looks cool.
4300k-5000k (stock) HID bulbs are the best you can get. Period. They offer the most usable light output, the truest color, the best poor weather visibility, and the least eye fatigue.
Not to mention, almost all of the high color temp HID bulbs you see online are cheap, low quality, Chinese made bulbs that have short life spans and often run excessively hot, which can damage the headlight in some cases.
OP, save your money and stick with the stock color temp bulbs.

There's only one bulb I know of thats actually and upgrade from the stock Philips. Those are Osrams 66240 CBIs (Cool intense blue). Went to the retrofit source store and compared the two again.
CBIs 5000K, 3800lumens ($185/pair)
Philips 85122+ 4300K (OEM), 3200lumens. ($95/pair)
The Osrams ARE the best bulbs on the market right now, especially here in the US. For awhile these were only offered in Europe and they have better EVERYTHING. Also this is the ONLY bulb I've ever come across that actually goes up in the Kelvin scale but also increases the lumens (light output). Gives out a crips white light with a hint of blue. You should check out HIDplanet and to get a better view.
The TL and TSX has some of the best projectors on the market. Acura in general makes some pretty great headlights. I'm pretty sure I covered the basic, as well as everyone else. If any info was wrong, please feel free to correct. We're here to help each other.
Oh and one more thing your TL has Bi-xenon projectors. It really doesn't get any better than that.
