3 car race

My friend was following me to a BBQ. At one light this Malibu was beside me I noticed he did rolling start and flew way ahead of me. I wasn't even awared anything was going on.

Then at the next light my friend with his 07 Maxima pulled to the left lane, and the Malibu was to my right. I start from a stand still. My friend was pretty much a stand still start, and the Malibu did a roll start. The Maxima caught the Malibu pretty quickly and I was 1.5 lengths behind the Maxima and at the tail of the Malibu. Bottom line, we slowed down when we got up to about 90 km. My friend's Max was ahead of me, and the Malibu had to cut behind me as his right lane became a turn off lane.

Maxima is automatic, about 265 hp and more torque than the 03 TL-S.

My car I just got 2 days ago and I used SS. I didn't check the RPM when I shifted thought except for the 1-2 automatic shift.

Malibu I think is either 217 or 240 hp. With the rolling start he was way in front of me though.

I checked the oil and tranny fluids and they were all near new in color. I put in some Auto-rx earlier in the day to clean out any sludge that might be in the engine, and put some Redline Fuel System cleaner into the tank. I haven't checked the air filter, plugs etc but by looking at the engine bay, fluids I would guess the previous owner kept things in good shape.

Well, I found off the line car wasn't as fast as it should have been. May be I should always do rolling starts when I race. Both cars had good jumps on me and then the TLS gain afterwards. I should also shift at near red, or top of the hp curve. Tires where Falken Z 512.

Here is what I might do probably in this order: UR crank pulley. Cone or CAI intake. Headers. Will check air filter and plugs as well.

I am a newbie when it comes to the TL-S. Hot car, ride height is high but I plan to stay with stock suspension. So far i like the car very much. Manual tranny would have been great but will do some minor mods to give it more power.

hmm....one thing...if you guys only raced up to 90km/h, then you shouldn't have to shift at all when using SS. Second gear should take you to like 110km/h.
