2nd transmission in a 3rd gen?
2nd transmission in a 3rd gen?
Hey guys new to this forum and was hoping I could get some answers/advice. Here’s the situation, right now I have a 00’ base on saturday I am being given a 05 with a blown trans. I was wondering if I can swap the transmission from my 00 into the 05 and what would I need to do to get it to work properly. I appreciate any advice. Thank you guys.
Sounds like a horrendous idea.. The 00 transmission isn't any better than the 05's. Look into the Accord V6 from '06-'07 if you want a reliable transmission to swap into either car's. Or do a 6 speed swap. Tons of articles on both those options.
why do the job twice? Source an AV6 and do it right the first time.
It's not an easy job dropping the trans in these cars.
but 00 wont fit 3rd gen TL
I'm curious, why won't the 2000 transmission fit? I am not an aficionado of automatic transmissions by any means, but it seems to me if the AV6 tranny will fit both the 2000-2003 2G TLs as well as the 2004-2006 3G TLs, why won't the 2000 transmission fit in a 2005?
Totally different series of transmissions that totally don't bolt up to each other. If you have spare money then you can make anything work. But why would you want to bolt a more problematic 00 trans into a 05??!? You should be looking at the BAYA transmission from similar years of Honda Pilot, Honda MDX, Honda Odyssey, and the Honda Accord.

- Given: The well regarded BAYA (aka. AV6) transmission bolts directly into the 2000-2003 TL models.

Because the one from the 2000 is relatively new and operates well; the one in the 2005 is in failure mode.
And you've done this yourself and for sure you know that it works? If you haven't then you shouldn't challenge. I owned a 98 V6 Accord and the transmission was crap. Any of the earlier trans bolted to the J series had overheating or clutch pack issues. There is no NEW transmission, but rebuilt ones. If it looks new from outside doesn't mean it's fine and was rebuilt properly inside.

Sort of true; as documented elsewhere here in this forum, the BAYA was exclusive to the 2006-2007 V6 Accord. The point I've been trying to make is the BAYA is plug compatible with both the later 2G and the early 3G TLs. There numerous threads also here on this forum which detail the swap.
