22 and under thread
I was driving home today and thinking about other TL'ers and how I haven't seen many younger people driving them. So just post a little info like why you bought a TL over say a mustang (other sports car) and where you work, go to school and what not. Not sure how many 22 and under people there are on here in the 3g forum as most TL owners are late 20's and up, probably because they're the only ones that can afford them.

I'm 22, I bought a 2007 Saturn Sky Redline as my gift to myself for graduating college, drove it for 11 months, wasn't practical. Lots of speed, tons of looks, great car if it wasn't my daily driver.
Picked up the TL because I wanted something nicer on the inside for my 85-100 mile a day commutes and I needed a trunk.
I'm a corporate buyer for major grocery retailer.

U can see my age from the avatar...i was initially going to buy an IS350 b/c I used to own a IS300 (b4 it got totalled) but when I went to the dealer in early February of 07, they were asking almost 50k. I was simply laughing when I left the dealership. So I went home and saw an Acura commercial and they were offering really good deals on the TL's. When I went to the dealership, I feel in love with the TLS. It was very affordable (38k fully loaded, lowered it to 36k). For a first time buyer, I got a good deal. I'm sure many youngsters that own a TL/TLS have their parents paying it but I don't let them do that for me. For a undergrad at UCLA who works at one of UCLA's hospitals, the payments seem like nothing. Now I've got to get started on the many mods.

Most of us didn't rush to get a nice car at 21 possible because we mortgaged houses, started a roth ira, mutual funds, you know, making our money grow
It's sad to see what is happening to our country, our financial institutions are failing, and we are shopping beyond our means. I'm NOT saying anything about anyone, I'm just speaking in general.
I personally spent over $20k modding my previous two cars, and it was a lot of fun, as I get older I regret spending 20K (the cars were stolen anyways)...should have invested it.
But life is wonderful
To all under 22, happy TLing!

OLD? say what?
All men are young until they hit 40...
After 40, we enter into a new dimension of more reasoning and less acting on impulses...not that bad either lol
So enjoy your youth!!!

As for the mods, I don't think I'll quite hit the 20k mark...but maybe somewhere in the 3-5K mark (that is until a S/C comes out for the TLS lol)

Why so much hatred for a thread like this? I'm just curious to see how people under 22 afford their TL and why they got one. You know because I don't particularly have much in common with the 40-50 year olds on the site.

There's been numerous threads similar to this. If you feel like you don't have much in common with the 40-50 year olds (there are alot of people in their mid to late 20s with this whip too), consider yourself lucky to have a car that 40-50 year olds who have been saving up to purchase a car of this caliber.

Well, I'm 18. I got the TL when my dad surprised me by trading in my 03' 530i, when I was 17. Bought all thanks to my parents, which I'm extremely grateful of.

I got my TL at 22 about a year and a half ago. Put myself through college, got a good job, financed the car, paying for it myself...
I'll be the first to admit that I am jealous when I hear of young people having their TL bought for them by their parents, but complaining and whining about it doesn't change anything...
Besides, you'd be surprised at how many enterprising young people are on this board who bought the car themselves with their own money at 18, 19, 20. Just because someone as a TL at 18 doesn't automatically mean it was bought for them.
Plus I'm sure there are a lot of young people who really can't afford it but drive a TL anyway.

I'm 17, of course I didnt pay for it, but my dad did set conditions for me to keep the car. I have to maintain good grades, go to college (which I'd do even if it wasnt a condition), keep a steady job, and pay for all maintenace and insurance costs.
I know most of you will think that I'm spoiled, but I KINDA believe that I do deserve the car as I am very responsible and dont give my parents any trouble such as sneaking out, drinking, drugs/smoking, I dont lie to them about where I'm going or who I'm with, etc...
I'm definately very thankful to have this car.
Sorry if there are typos. I'm on my phone. -_-

nice responses, I have much in common with all the people on this board as we all love the same car, but...I also enjoy having a thread for people my age, experiencing the same thing and I want to see how they got there. As for my story, I bought mine 2 months ago, it will be paid off once I sell my other car . I paid for it, and was a nice treat to help me get through college and feel more professional. I have much respect for luxury and "kids" who share that same feeling, rather than getting a rice burners "Suping" it up and looking "cool" AKA maturity .

well you must have enough in common with 40-50 yr olds to be on this site with them......lol ...but i doubt there are many 40 - 50 yr olds on this site. Most are between the ages of 20 and 35........and if you have a TL you have alot in common.

If you or your parents, whoever (and who cares?!?) decided to purchase a TL, that's fabulous!
I don't think its our business to know where you got the money to pay for it.
What the OP should of done, its to create a simple poll to see the age differences of TL owners (and such thread I believe already exists)
And I'm not surprised that we have younger TLers, it's a g00d thing! We all spent our money wisely, since we are all driving a TL
Besides, in the area where I live I see 17-20 yr olds driving M5, SL550, S500, some even rock bentleys...good for them I can't demean them just because they have money to purchase such luxury cars.
I always look into my own plate, and I eat what I can afford to put on the table. (metaphor)

Again, as the OP I'm just curious as to whose under 22 driving a TL and how they got it and mostly WHY they got it. Most kids and even adults ask me why a TL and not a sports car. I think "kids" that rock out TL's are classy.
