I've been looking at keyfobs from a place called remotesandkeys.com, and I wanted to replace one of my keys with a new 2010 switchblade keyfob. The site says all the keys are easily programmable and all I'll have to do is get a locksmith to actually cut and copy the key. I went to my dealer first and they told me it would cost 800 dollars if I had them do it all for me. Is anybody forseeing any problems with this or have they ever programmed a fob themselves? If it makes a difference I have a 2004 TL with navigation.

The OP is actually asking a question that I have not yet seen in 3G.

Maybe Marcus (HeelToe) can look into it to see if it is a possibility.

So is the 4th gen TL's switchblade different than the 07-08 3rd Gen switchblade? If so, can someone share a photo?

The 4th gen key fob is not a switchblade style key.

They use what's called the proximity key. Since the 4th gen uses push button start you don't even have to put they key into the "dock" to start the car.

I doubt your can use the 4th gen key with a 3g TL. And even if you could it would be strange as the actual key slides out of the bottom of the fob.

only the tech package for the 4g has the proximity key the ebase models have regular keys that go in the ignition
