2009 Acura TL VS 2008 Acura TL TYPE-S

Which one would you buy?(right now)

2009 = you have to wait, unknown design.
2008 = you can get it right now.

i think 2009 will look ugly from the spy shots.

I bought my 08 because I refuse to buy 1st year model cars. After owning a 1st year Mercedes E class and a 2nd year 3 series, I specifically chose this car because I know it's the last year of the cycle.

So far my car has 1100 miles and I've only been to the dealer ONCE and that was to fix a temperature sensor. Whereas the other German cars I've owned, I would have spent 5 days at the dealer by now.

You answered your own question! lol (Right Now)

In my situation I'm trading my 04 TL end of lease for an 08. I wanted to wait for the 09 but I need a car for the 9months or so before the 09 is out. So 08 Tl for me and perhaps I'll trade in for the 10 TL

Personally, I would wait to see what the 2009 has to offer. I wouldn't want to regret buying an 08 if the 09 blows it away.

That's only if you're the kind of person who wants a new car every 3-5 years. If you keep cars longer, ie. 8-12 years, who cares?

I have a hard time believing the 09 TL will have a MSRP of $48000. If it does, well, we're screwed.

consider the fact that i paid 33k for a brand new 07, and the 09 will list for 40+, and no good deal will be had...simple math, thats a minimum of 7K....i would be willing to bet that a new tl loaded will be close to 43K, if not closer to 45....some of you guys must have just been born this morning if i need to explain this to you....

You can't really judge a car based on pictures that show nothing but like 99% camo..

agreed. and you cant talk about cost when you dont even know what its going to be. from the 2009 tl thread people are saying that there will be a base tl and the "sportier" one with the SH-AWD. looks like we're all going to have to wait a few more months

OP..id go with the 08 for the mere fact that the 09 will be the first model year..ill let them work out the kinks before i *possibly* trade up...until then im entirely satisfied with my 08 tl-s

Thanks to 'vinnie' for 'explaining it all' to us.

I read elsewhere after 'I was born this morning' that the TL will price for $34k to $39k. Not sure if $39k is where the SHAWD TL starts or higher.

wish I knew as much as Mr. 'vinnie'. He's real smarts.

The base 09 TL will not cost over $35K. If Acura is sane they'll leave the FWD format for the base model and add an AWD option, unless they offer an AWD base less than $35K. It would be crazy for Acura to overprice their bread and butter over the competition.

Honda is very deliberate and not myopic (short sighted). They are even forward thinking. I was always confused as to the segment the TSX appealed to but now I see that BMW (1series), Audi (A3), Merc (CLC), Volvo (C30), IS (250) are clamoring for this segment with new models. The TSX will be buffed up to continue to continue in the entry level lux segment with the above mentioned brands.

The 09 TL will continue to compete in the 3 series segment. It would be suicidal to price the base at $38-40K. It just won't happen.

The RL is getting a refresh to try to get back in the game with the $40-55K segment. Rumors are that there will be an actual flagship sedan to compete with the German prestige saloons. So to reiterate the new 09 TL will not cost >$35K for the base.

It's exciting times for Acura.

why would i compare msrp for one car that i wouldnt even come close to paying msrp and another that you will pay exactly msrp....i wouldnt...thats why he would pay alot more for an 09 and not just a couple grand...

They could put a V6 in the TSX and make it more comparable to the base TL and make the new TL 300+ HP AWD. This would be the same as the BMW 328i vs 335i and about $10k.

I don’t know too many ppl that would choose a TL over a 335i if they were similarly priced. I know I wouldnt...well at least the coupe anyway.

That's because you live in Texas, you should ask some people in Minnesota and Colorado. Snow storms, the great equalizer.

Very true. I'm from NY and before I moved down here I never even considered a sports sedan let alone a sports coupe. It was strictly SUV's, but at the same time, is there really that much difference between a 335i sedan and a TL when it comes to snow?

Get the 08 type-s. Im facing the same decision because my lease ends in 3 months. Im going to get a 2 year lease on a type-s then get the 4th gen. I never get cars on their first year out cuz im cheap and theres no lease programs out for them!

Oh, HELL Yes!
I've driven both. They can add all the electronic traction controls they want to on the 335i, and it can't get the job done.
It's such a georgeous machine though, I wish I could own both.
On the other side, we've had some pretty mild winters here in Ohio lately.
hmmmmm

I heard the same thing about the G35 coupe. I just thought since it was not only a BMW, but the car that everyone seems to put on a pedestal, it would be different. Guess I was wrong.

If they decide to make the TL an SH-AWD it will be a standard item. Plus first year they dont make "Sport" models They wait at least 2-3 years to release a sport model.

Pricing will be determined also by the value of the Dollar

I'd go with the new 09 TL. The TL has always been Acura's prized baby, they can't screw it up with the TL in any aspect.

When the the 3rd gen TL came out, it was more powerful then the 2nd gen TL type S.
So I'm assuming the 4th gen will be on par (power wise) with the 08 TL type S.

i think it was rumored to be 330hp for the base TL but I could be wrong...just get the type s now and get the NEW 4G TYPE S which hopefully is going to be REALLY FAST when that comes out in like iono, 2011-2012?
