2008 Acura TL-S...Sportshift?

So I have a question to all the Acurazine guys here...

Is getting an Automatic Sportshift TL-S worthless?

Apparently there is no 2008 Manual Transmission left in the USA and since 2008 production is dead there never will be again =[

I'm just curious anyones point of view on a TYPE-S in Automatic...it just doesn't seem right that a Sporty Sports Luxury car be Automatic thats what the base model is for. But does anyone own a TL-S Auto...do you wish you had Manual...any Manuals out there have a viewpoint?

07 TL-s auto and NO regret's what so ever. If I went for an Evo,Sti,s2k then a manual is a must. I like having the option to shift when I want and my left leg thank's me.lol It's def not the same as a 6speed but satifies my need at times.
My ls vtec teggy was fun but sometime's pissed me off.I just get lazy in stop and go traffic.I like to race manual's and drive auto's and for the most part I drive my TL. A 6speed would be fun for a while but TO ME it would get old.

using the TipTronic shifting correctly will yield faster and smoother shifts than the average driver can get out of a clutch-
When you are in traffic its great to leave it in D4 (not 5 in traffic) and move with the masses.
On the backroads when you want to play- the trans is there for you to have fun with!
Some day you will be old or have a back or leg-hip-knee injury while young- then the automatric is awesome

If only it was on the steering wheel....

No regrets

I have an 07 Type-S auto and to be honest, sometimes I wish it were a 6 speed, but normally (about 90%) of the time I am happy that I don't make my LA commute with a stick. Also, the acceleration is nothing to sneeze at with the auto... and maybe.. just maybe a little slightly less torque steer (altho i almost hop into the next lane anyways sometimes!). Good luck

The tiptronic/paddle-shift is fun for the first five minutes. After that, I stick it in "D" and just drive.

There are times I wish I had a 6MT, but sitting in traffic on the 105, 710, and 10 remove any doubts of the auto.

I drove a manual for the first 16 years of my driving career. I miss it because I enjoy the feel, the control. The interaction between man + machine + road. Can't describe it.

That said, no matter how good of a shifter you are, it's never going to be as smooth as the automatic, and that's what the wife requested. Happy wife = happy life. :P

I'll get to drive a stick shift again someday.

automatic = no pita in rush hour traffic......down side is that acura severely limits the top speed of the newer ones to like 137mph......whats up with that? i know it's kind of a moot point but with your average pos huyndai sonota capable of at least 147..........

TL-S Auto here and I'm 100% happy with it. To be honest i would only go manual on a coupe.

TL is my daily driving car that i use to commute to school everyday thru morning traffic so manual is out of question for me. Specially with all the hills in Austin haha.

Are you in a relationship right now? because most girls like auto transmission due to its smoother ride and the fact that you can hold hands and this and that.

But yeah think about it and make the choice u won't regret =)

Cricifier, I have an '07 Type S and love the car. It's an automatic and I would not have wanted a manual transmission. But you are young and might still enjoy it. I've have my manual sports cars and am past that now.

Bottom line...you can't go wrong either way. But get the car soon!

Just tell the Sonata owner "First to 135mph wins."

Cricifier, I also have a 07 KBP TL S Type and agree with Steven Bell. Mine is also an automatic, but in a former life jumped out of too many airplanes and helicopters then walking many, many miles, thus necessitating a auto. Nothing beats the visceral interaction with driving a manual, ultimately it depends on you and the choice that best fits your situation. Bottom line either way is a winner in my book.

I have a 2008 tl type s and there was no way that I was getting an automatic. I told the dealer what I wanted (black on black with a six speed) and for them to go find it for me. They told me that it would be hard to do but, half an hour later they HAD found one and it was on the way.

yea...I usually dont mess around with the SS- on the highway or straight away driving ( from light to light) the lag is bad- however around turns, or a back road that has some nice turns its pretty sick (downshifting) then opening it up- the sound is GREAT- but other than that-eh

I still don't understand how anyone can drive the TL-S with 6 speed under FULL throttle. I just think it's so pointless.

As for the "manual shift" mode for the automatic transmission, I also feel it's useless, unless you want to hold a gear. For truly effective sport shift i.e. tiptronic, you need to go drive a Porsche or BMW's SMG. The difference is night and day.

The TL's "paddle shifts" is just a nice feature Acura can put down on paper. I high doubt many people use it frequently. To answer your question: " it just doesn't seem right that a Sporty Sports Luxury car be Automatic thats what the base model is for."
There are plenty of sporty luxury car that's automatic!

If the TL-s were RWD, you would be seeing A LOT more 6-speeds.
