Honda and Toyota do the same thing; their big sellers are not very emotional when it comes to design - sure it's got some uniqueness, but in general they make it some what bland to appeal to the masses. When speaking of world wide sales, the number of people here who think it's ugly is insignificant. We are on this forum because we do more than just purchase a car and drive it - the TL is not a bland car. The next TL will most likely be a major departure from the Accord style - as the current one is - to appeal to the smaller market of people who want aggressive styling and luxury features.
So when you say "what the hell were you thinking Honda", you can be 90% sure they're thinking "we're going to make a shit load of money". If you don't like the Accord, you'll like the TL.

Very true! Which is why the various ends look like Hyundai's, Saturns, and the rear of the coupe screams Solara!! THey're all aiming for the same target audience, which is people who want an appliance that is as reliable and requires as much attention as their refrigerator!! Hopefully the TL will not have anything in common with the looks of these!!!!

I was about to say the same thing. The new accord took design cues from the TL, look at the design going down the side of the car..... I definitely think the next TL is going to have a grill and headlights similar to the MDX. The last gen MDX and thie current gen TLs have similar designs cues. No reason that would change.

Meh. Not really feeling it too much. But it is a Honda. I'm sure Acura will come up with something more aggressive and cleaner.
Wow, that looks pretty good! It's amazing what just wheels and less of a wheel gap can do for a car. Totally changed the look and feel..

the coupe is not bad.... the sedan, is ugly.
actually, i hope they make the next gen TL look like the sedan. that way, i wont want to upgrade my car and will love my current 3rd gen TL even more. hahahaha. i can wait another 5 years before the next model change and hope they have a lot better design by then.

I've always loved Accords. I've liked every Accord released 1989 and beyond, but I can't stand looking at the '08 Accord and not think, "What the fuck?". Honda saw what Toyota did with the Camry, and what Nissan did with the Altima, and you mean to tell me that this was the best design they could come up with for the Accord? This is the first Accord that I have ever seen that makes me want to throw up! Acura better not follow these design cues for the TL, or any future vehicle for that matter. I'm a little concerned, because I'm probably going to trade in my '05 TL for a '09 or '10, but not if looks anything like the new Accord. If the next TL looks like shit, I'll keep my '05 or trade up for an '08 TL-S! Should be able to get a great deal by then.

The shapes are following what they are doing with the civics.

Another Bland Accord
The new upcoming Accord sedan is bland and nothing to scream at. The coupe I think is far better looking. I do agree with another posting that it looks like a fat Civic. If you lke Honda products go for Acura the designs are far better on some models

My favorite Accord of all time had to be the 4th gen. When the 5th gen came out, I was mad because it was ugly, but they had redeemed themselves with the 6th gen. Then the 7th gen came out and I was pissed again. Now this is what we have for the 8th gen and I'm beginning to lose faith in their design team.

Am I right?
Am I right?
I think that two-door looks OK. The front bumper is very aggressive, like more so than I can remember any Honda being in recent years (or ever).

I've never liked any of the newer Accord body styles that came out after my 96 (which is apparently a 5th gen, according to Wikipedia)
This one definitely doesn't make me want to rush out and replace my Accord for this new one.
I have to agree with several of the others - my next car to replace the Accord is going to be a step up. To a degree, it's still an appliance, but it's also a place that I spend a lot of time in. I want it to look good, be comfortable, and have a host of features/gadgets.
That said, I will be really dissapointed if the 09 TL takes any design cues from the new MDX front end. You want to talk Fugly - the MDX is far higher on the fugly scale than this new Accord.

We may now hate the looks of the 08 Accord now. But give it some time. You can never go wrong with the Accord. It has and will always be the best bang for the buck. It will grow on us.
I hope!

Its not on Car and Drivers top ten for what seems like forever for no reason. Its because of how the Accords drive. Granted I think the 4 cyl is a bore but buy the V6 and its a different story. Who cares how it looks, if Honda as claims gives it 270hp V6 for mid 20s its a great buy.
