2008 or 2009 tl

My lease is up in August and I am getting anxiety on what to do. I love my 05 TL and as much as I would re-lease the 08, the idea that the 09 will be out 3 months later makes me wonder if I will feel like I made the wrong decision and have to live with it for 3 more years. Oh the humanity!!!!

you obviously already know what the 08 TL looks like. Every one here on Azine certainly knows about all the quirks and little issues that they have. The 09 will look much different and have a bunch of knew quirks and issues to contend with. New cars and total redesigns always have the issues until the 2nd or 3rd production runs.

Since you are probably going back to releasing, then I will wait it out. I heard there are going to have two version of the car. Base TL which will have a 3.5 liter and an AWD TL with 3.7 liter pushing over 320 horses. These are the words from the sales person at the dealership.

If you really love your '05 and have taken good care of it, why not buy it at the end of your lease. Leasing is the most expensive way of "owning" a car and turning one over every three years is pure hell on the budget.

Honda/Acura had its 2009 dealer meeting in New Orleans last week, and a little birdie that claims to have attended has whispered some details about the 2009 Acura TL in our ears. According to our anonymous tipster, the '09 TL range will consist of two models. The front-wheel-drive car will be powered by a 3.5L V6 delivering 280 horsepower. The step-up version will feature SH AWD and have a 3.7L, 300-horsepower V6 underhood (presumably the same one used in the MDX). We're told the latter car is not a Type-S, by the way -- that trim level goes back into hibernation with the arrival of the '09. Word is, the car "looks amazing." The TL in its current state is Acura's best-looking vehicle, so our curiosity is definitely piqued.

Considering that you are leasing, the 09 TL will end up costing you big.

If you don't mind driving the 08 TLS for the next 3 years and paying a lot less for it than 09...then 08 is your best choice. I really enjoy my 08.

(plus I distrust getting into a new car/model in it first year of production)

A tough dilemma. My 04 lease was set to expire in June but I decided on an 08 while the selection/incentives are good. The dealer bought out the remaining months and gave me a great deal on a new one. If you wait until the 09's come out , your 08 choices will be limited supply. You might get a great price on an 09 lease because the residual will be high. However, if the car is in hot demand based on previews before it starts selling, they might get a premium over the sticker for it. I would probably ride my lease as long as I can and hope more info on the 09's surfaces between now and then, making the decision easier.

To get the most bang for the buck I'd go for an '08 when the lease is out. 3rd gen TLs are great looking, have most of the bugs worked out and you can probably strike a good deal on a car in the remaining inventory. The 09 will have teething problems, definitely be more expensive and may be an ugly stepchild of the 3rd gen. Good luck.

Your responses are great and I may just go for the 08. If the cost on the 09's is going to be higher, the hell with it. As much as I would love to buy the car out, it really makes more sense to re-lease a new one as I need the expense for work purposes and to finance the leftover residual on the 05 will cost about the same per month. In the end I don't really want to own the car as maintenance issues start after about 4 years. The write off is good for biz and reduces my so called profits at the end of the year reducing my personal tax bill on money I may never get, so leasing a decent car every 3 years is one way that I can get a non taxable benefit. Was wondering.... do the 08's have the tire pressure monitors? and what other new stuff do these cars have that the 05 didn't. I currently have navigation and probably will buy it again for the new car.

There are a few differences in the 08 vs 05. Tire pressure monitors, rear view camera (w/ Nav) mp3 playback, different gauges...etc.

I wouldn't buy the 2009 Acura TL because of the redesign. If I were you I would buy the 08's TL-S now before they don't have any in stock. .

The 2009 Acura TL will have 300-hp, 3.7 liter V-6 borrowed from the RL. Estimate cost will START at $35k

If I were you, I'd go for the 08' TL-S. I just purchased mine last Friday and I have no regrets. During the decision making process, I did debate whether I should wait for the 09 TL or not. The redesign, higher cost, and 1st gen. issues are what made me decide to go with the 08'. I don't see a lot of TL-S on the road and they have a few unique colors (I bought the carbon bronze pearl with/ taupe/ebony interior). Coming from driving a 99' Integra, it's a huge upgrade for me.

As TypeSDragon mentioned, there are some pretty cool features. sorry I can't compare to any previous models. But simply put, the price is right. Got enough power under the hood and its featured packed. Good luck!

Gabagoo, if you're leasing through AHFC, they make it ridiculously easy to extend your lease for a month or two, or even three under the same terms.

I'd think the 09's should be at dealers by mid-fall...

Another big difference is the tires. My 04 came with the dreaded Bridgestones. Even the revised versions which I had were horrible. My new 08 has Michelins. I can't believe the difference in handling/wet weather performance. If you go for an 08, though, make sure yours has them as I also saw Bridgestones on 08's. In any event the 08 is an 04 with 4 years build experience!

My 05 had Michelins, but they wore out, I now have a nice set of Toyo's no complaints, mind you the car going back with basically new tires.

The new TL is shown in the latest Car & Driver. It only has one look, but from what I saw, it looks badass and the hp is up to 300 now.

The C&D photo has been confirmed as photoshopped.

I stopped in at a Honda Dealership and gave the Accura 2 door coupe top of the line a good look over. Other than the fact it has only 2 doors it is as close to the TL as I think I will find. It has all the blue tooth and talking car stuff and 168 hp and best of all it runs on REGULAR gas!!! Lastly it is about $10,000 cheaper here in Canada. I am seriously considering this car

Just wait for the release of the '09 TL and specs, if you don't like it, you can get an '08 for an amazingly low price. If you like the '09, then take it.

I saw on the acura site the lease has changed for the TL. It's now $359 a month with $2499 down. Either the money factor has changed, the residual or both. I'm glad I picked up my TL before the deal changed.
