2007 Type-S vs 2008 328i

Should I trade my 08 48k 328i with sports for a 07 type-s with 49k? The type-s books higher than the Beemer. I love the sporty taut suspension of the Beemer. Would the type-s be anywhere as enjoyable? I was a proud owner of an 06 TL but sold that one regrettably. Anybody experienced both cars, would love to hear your opinions! Thanks guys!

If you're okay with going from rwd to fwd, do it! Not to mention the change in navigation. Ours looks ancient now lol.

Do you have any problem with the BMW?

I dunno man. Type S probably looks better IMO. It's probably more reliable and fuel efficient as well. I have never owned a BMW so I can't tell you which is more fun, but I'm sure enjoying my 6mt Type S. The things a blast to drive.

Before I bought my TL-S I had test driven an '06 330i and an '07 335xi. You've had a TL before, so you know about driving a FWD. You'd be gaining almost 60hp at the crank. I find the TL-S to be in the ballpark as the 330, but not the 335. The AWD 335 was a sweet machine!
Alas, the heavily documented problems with the high pressure fuel pump and early twin turbo failures (because the N54 engine was brand new at the time) and my 300km distance from the nearest dealer kept me from buying one without a warranty.

My vote is for the TL-S. I think you'll be happy. Take one for a drive.

OP - you probably already know the answer since you posted this on an Acura forum. If you regrettably sold a 2006 TL to go with a BMW 328, then I would think you would like a TL S that has more power, features, and better handling over the base model TL.

It would be interesting to know why you're planning on coming back to an Acura- my hunch is maintenance cost is a factor with a BMW that is out of warranty.

Type-S.

That said, only in the battle of the two vehicles you listed.

Say E46 M3 or Type-S? E46.

TL is an epic machine, had more times where I stop and just stare at it, or notice at 80 mph on the interstate I can hear my youngest brother quietly snoring from the backseat that make the TL such a wonderful overall vehicle.

In my opinion, had Acura started their SH-AWD system as a precursor for 4G TL's in the 3G Type-S range, I'd never buy another car again, but alas...

of the two OP posted, TL-S.

anything but a M or 335i is meh imo for the 3 series.

My father has a E46 325i, it's nothing special and has had quite a few electrical problems.

Comparing the two manual transmissions, even the E46 M3's feels like a truck compared to the precision (though cable shifted) MT in the TL 6MT/Type S. I've driven both, and my friend that owns the M3 shares the same opinion. M3 is still a really sweet machine though..i'd be tempted to buy one (6MT only).

FWIW - there is a certain amount of exclusivity with the TLS. Yes, the same can be said about an M3, but the 3 series are a dime a dozen. Seems like everyone has one.

The other thing to remember is the BMW maintenance costs are going to be double the cost at 10 years old

I don't see why I would. Just stating that OP will be going from rwd to fwd if he makes the switch, along with navigation changes.

Yes, maintenance issues are always on the back burner for the BMW. I try to fast forward years down the road and the Acura would take the cake as far as costs. We owned the 06 base TL since new and it only had a starter replacement and typical maintenance costs. We owned a previous 3 series and it was nearly double the cost for oil changes and other maintenance items. This 08 328i we currently have now is actually the most trouble-free BMW we've owned Even the MPG's are darn good since we avg. 26-27 mpg on about 40/60 city/highway. The biggest drawback to jumping on the 07 type-s is the asking price of the dealer. They want nearly 23k for this machine! Thats a grand above retail on KBB. I have yet to haggle with them (dealer) but it's a looker, Black on Black. Just like our 328i.
