Question about B1 Maintenance Minder

Newbie here. I have an '06 TL with 24400 miles. Sorry if this has been covered but I did a search and didn't find much.

What are people's thoughts on the maintenance minders, specifically B1? I've generally been following them except for getting more frequent oil changes (every 3K miles or so). The other day I got a B1 for the first time. Looking at the description, other than the usual oil change & tire rotation, everything else seems to be just visual inspections of the brakes, suspension, exhaust, fluids etc. Is this worth the few hundred dollars the dealer wants to charge me? Is the car new enough that it's not likely to have any problems in these areas or is it best to have it checked out? Also curious at what mileage others got their first "B" service notice.

Thanks in advance for any advise/opinions.

I've been having similar issues, got my B1 @ 12,0xx Miles, and Dealers want 194!

I think i'm going to get a Oil change and be done with it, as i'll be purchasing new tires for the winter ahead.

laterally, welcome to the forums. the B1 includes: oil & filter change and a tire rotation w/ a bunch of inspections. w/ almost 25k miles, imho a couple of hundred dollars is way too much for an oil change and tire rotation. just do the basic maintenance and wait for 30k miles before you spend any more major money- all in imho of course.

ggesq, thanks for the welcome and your advice. That's the way I was leaning as well. I can't imagine there being anything seriously wrong at this point that I wouldn't notice while driving. As I said I've been pretty aggressive about basic maintenance so far.

Anyone else please chime in with your 2 cents.

You definitely have come to the right conclusion.

Change the oil on a regular basis/interval of your choice (i'm an every 4500-5500 mile guy ~30% on the MID). Rotate your tires at the same interval (check brakes at that time and balance tires when needed). Transmission service around 30K and again at 60K etc.(my personal opinion). Change belts and possibly flush cooling system and brake system at 60K as well.

Check for any obvious leaks and all the normal wear and tear items/levels along the way etc yourself, IE pay normal attention to your car..
- Like you mentioned, if something is wrong you will notice it. The TL really needs nothing other than that for the first 60-105K miles. The rest is just dealership profit.

Unless you prefer to spend the extra money, dealership service depts are for warranty work only.... (again, personal "honest" opinion - however, I worked at one for over 8 years.. )

Soo, bringing it back from the dead since I don't feel like making a new thread about this..

Can you actually go to the dealer and have them reset the stupid B1 reminder light off? It bugs me.

Or you can do it yourself:

Just changed my oil this evening and a quick search here turned up the answer.

You might have missed a service if you are not paying attention to the codes that the Maintenance Minder displays when you do an early reset.

At 25k, it's about time to replace the engine and cabin air filters.

it cleans the air coming in to the cabin...you know...the place you sit. Its located behind the glove compartment. its only $15 for the filter and there are instructions on this site if you want to do it yourself. i recommend you do and save some $

Bringing this thread back from the dead haha.
Im currently at 74,000 miles on my 08 TL and I am getting the Past Due B1 service light. Should i just get an oil change or should i take it to the dealership to get them to check everything else out as well? I have never had the trans oil change or belts, filters, etc changed. So if I were to bring it in should i ask them to change all of that as well?

Transmission service is supposed to happen at 60k, I would get a quote from the dealership as well as an independant shop and weigh your options.

Okay, should i mention that i did Not have any transmission service done? Because they "dont go by mileage. They go by the codes." So i will bring it up to them and if the price is ridiculous get it done else where. But they're charging me $122 for the standard B1 service. I also have warranty until 100k miles.
