2007 transmission questions

Hey guys, I'm working on my sons '07 TL, he had an issue with a code P1745 "line pressure too high for too long", we went through and changed the fluid (found no metal on the drain plug), replaced the pressure switches, and cleared the codes. ---here's whats going on now, we drive the car and for the first 2 miles or so everything works great, shifts smooth and normally, then it will start not wanting to shift into 3'rd or higher, if I stop and reset the TCM/PCM using the gas pedal procedure, it will drive perfect again for another 2 miles or so then start all over again. I could drive it as far as I wanted provided I stopped every 2 miles and reset it.

my understanding is there is a VLP counter that needs to be cleared to get it out of LIMP mode. I've tried 3 different scanners and cannot find it anywhere, I took it to my mechanic who tried using his Snap on Zeus and couldn't find it, then we went to a Honda shop and they tried their Honda diagnostic software and could not find it. my question is, is there actually a counter involved? and if so, does anyone know EXACTLY what scanner will allow you to reset it?

thanks,

I searched the PDF FSM for 'VLP counter' and 'no results' was what came back.
This is what I found specific for Acura P1745 DTC & there is no mention of any form of VLP counter:

Did you use OE fluid and OEM switches?

I did use OEM switches but I used a fluid that is supposed to be compatible with Acura and Honda that I got from Advance auto parts.

it seems that when my son looked up the code P1745 he got a result for another car and didn't notice.

I didn't measure what I took out because the fluid was low which is what started this JOY RIDE.

I don't remember what fluid it was, I just asked the clerk for fluid for this car, I was told it was compatible.

will be getting some Acura fluid and replacing it.

If interested, here is what the main valve & regulator bodies look like with lots of moving valve parts moving to and fro.

i suggest reviewing your owner’s manual on the proper technique to check transmission fluid level

Possibly the transmission has clogged strainers, filters or ports from clutch debris causing ATF line pressure issues. I feel your pain as I had a 2001 Odyssey with 4-speed that crapped out and I serviced the hell out if it - only got 100k miles out of it.

Advice over the years with Honda ATs is to drain and fill every 30k miles (or earlier on problematic AT years) with Honda only ATF. Some have added an external spin-on or inline filter like a Magnefine to help with clutch debris. Some factory filters are not easily serviceable.
