2006 TL timing belt change
I just bought a well maintained single owner 2006 TL with 81,000 Miles. The timing belt has not been changed on it and I'm in Arizona.
I took it into a Honda Dealer to get it replaced along with the water pump but the dealer is recommending that I not change the water pump at this time.
He however recommended I replace the tensioner (which I agree). Is this Acura's recommendation that the water pumps don't need replacement at the time of timing belt replacement?
The dealer is recommending that I change it when I next bring it in for timing belt replacement in another 60,000 miles. Please advice.

Better of to replace the water pump now, since everything else is being replaced. As for the the next TB replacement in 60k? Not to sure about that. Maybe I can understand if the car has been in AZ all its life & will continue to be. Those extreme summer temperatures can be brutal. Besides the car is nearing 10yrs old... so i would do it.. IMO

Replace the TB and waterpump soon if you plan on keeping the car for any significant amount of time. But don't take it back to that dealer, they already seem incompetent. Search for a good mechanic, it doesn't require any special tools except for the crank pulley removal tool. And I'd say 4 hours of labour.

I don't know about the weather in Arizona being a factor. I mean our cars run what, 300+ degrees under the hood. I don't know that dry heat in AZ can compete with that.
With regards to the timing belt, my Acura dealer told me the same thing, that if it's not leaking, they don't recommend replacing. That reduced the cost over $300. I didn't do it, because I was in there for recall work, but I thought that was interesting. When I do it later this year, I'm buying the kit with the water pump. It's less that $175 at Rock Auto. I don't know if I want to do anymore timing belt replacements, so my trusted shop quoted me $500 in labor. That's something like six hours, I believe. I'm not sure what the spec sheets quote, but it's somewhere around that.

Yeah, I thought so too and was surprised especially considering the dealers others have dealt with. But this dealer has pretty good reviews online for both sales and service and I've been going there since I bought the car.

I just got my Timing belt done(109,000 miles) along with some other work(changing hoses) Monday. I bought about $600 worth of parts and the shop I took it to hit me for about $600 in labor. I can really tell the difference even though it wasn't running bad before the work was done. Now I need a tune up and transmission fluid replaced.
