2005 to 2008 TL's

Hi Guys, I joined this forum today being that I am in the market of buying a certified used TL at least from 2005 to 2008. I currently drive a 2006 Honda Accord EX-L 5AT 4cyl. What is the most important things do I need to look for as far as repairs and most issues. I know most Honda's had transmission issues on their V6's. I was wondering are there alot of TL's in that year range with issues like that?

There have been problems with both the AT and MT in the Acura, but is it an abnormal amout, I'd say no. As far as repairs, most are trouble free, or at least from major problems. Brakes are a problem as with many vehicles, rotors become out of tolerance and pedal pulsating begins but if it is equipped with Brembo front calipers, pad life is short lived, at least from the reports on this forum.

Just got to do your homework and get a car that was treated properly.

Good luck.

I also moved to a TL from your same car. I got an 06 TL with nav. I've owed a lot of Acuras over the last ten years, so it was a no brainer for me. I've had an 04 TL, 07 RDX, 07 TSX and now back to the TL.

like the others have said, do your homework, pick a color that you won't regret and enjoy an excellent vehicle. Keep in mind, every car comes with it's faults (even Bimmers and Mercs).

carfax tells you some stuff...but not all.

dealers tell you some stuff...but not all.

i just bought an 07 type-s and decided to get the extended warranty to 100k...a little insurance in case something goes wrong down the line.

have an independant mechanic look over any vehicle you plan to buy. it should be about $100 but well worth it n may uncover potential problems that the dealers inspection may not even see/tell you.

be completely happy and confident with your decision, don't settle for the first TL you see. TL's are everywhere, and there is one for everyone out there. take your time and you'll know your car when you see it.

preventative maintenance will also pay off big time, reg oil changes, trans fluid, all other fluids, etc etc...i'm sure you know all this.

the search function here on the forum is very handy as well. hth

Be prepared for the MPG differences between your Accord vs the TL. In town the TL is a pig. On the highway it does just fine. There have been other threads on here from prior Accord or TSX owners who were caught off guard by the low MPG in the city when they were used to high 20's or low 30's from their previous cars.

I didn't notice a huge difference in MPG going from an 06 Accord 4 banger to the TL. Sure, you're going from a weak 4 banger to a nice 6, but it's not that bad. I fill up my tank about once a week now compared to once every week and a half.

Thanks guys! I have been doing alot of research and of course I can live with the normal wear and tear items. I am actually locked in one of the TL's down in South Florida hopefully they agree on my price for my trade as well as their price of the car and apr's rate I may drive down over there for the day

I was expecting sort of a big difference, but in the end it wasn't too bad since my Accord was an '02 EX-V6 sedan.

LOL The reason being is that 05 - 08 CPO. Also, 05's are 2nd year made so whatever the problems are existing in the 04's are be worked out in the 05's and later. I am actually concerned about transmission's in these cars. I know alot of Honda's in like 1999 - 2003 with V6's had issues
