Not yet. No one knows whether it will happen.

I feel that Acura, as a smart car company, will definately take advantage of the making "Type S"'s, because they can

1) Make money on it.
2) Use the name which was a success in the past.

It will only happen if demand slacks off maybe in 3 years.

A-spec seems to have replaced Type-S and took off the performance aspect away

With so many car reviewers already complaining that there's "too much engine for a FWD", it seems unlikely.

They should have made the current TL the TL-S and a model with more touring oriented tires and suspension the base model.

Most buyers could care less for 45 series ultra performance tires and the tradeoffs that they present.

Then again the 6MT has a sportier suspension and can be had with Better tires (+$200) so that could be considered a TL-S.

The type-S might come in a couple of years as an awd with more hp.

Acura Service Tech said that the 6MT is lited in all the parts books as TL Type-S so I guess that might be all there is. Hopefully not.

NO type S. Only A-spec. 04 TL already pushes out 10 more hp then the old type S. and acura cant do much more with out upgrading there 3.2 engine.

Doesn't that describe the A-Spec?

Also, I agree that you'll probably not see more horsepower.
The next logical steps would be AWD then more HP.

And I don't see that happening until the next redesign a few years out.
They don't seem to have any trouble selling them as is.

Why is it so hard to understand that what Acura basically did was drop the orginal TL, only sell the a Type S model, and renamed it a "Base" TL? The current TL is an evolution of the last Type S, without the Type S name.

Exactly. Plus, as has been stated before, there is no more room for more horsepower on this front wheel drive platform....there will probably not be another type S tl.

:lol1:

Seriously though, smart money says Honda's probably waiting to see if Nissan (G35S) fires another salvo into the HP wars. Then they'll introduce pumped-up version of the current TL 6MT (a la Acura TL A-spec concept, with its highly tuned 3.2L V6--read: NYIAS). Maybe the 300-350hp version of the upcoming V35DE (destined for the 350Z Type E) will trickle down to the G35.

The future looks interesting.

Peace.

wooo 350hp 3.5liter? that is something else. 100hp per liter for a 6 banger is awesome. that vq35de engine is one of the best engines in the world. it will be interesting to see what acura will do to combat that.

I'm guessing that perhaps all the auto companies may be keeping half on eye on the gas price trend. With premium approaching (and in some places surpassing) $2.00 a gallon, it may be possible that the next swing in HP could be downward. Many of us can still remember what the gas crisis of the mid-70's did to cars....and lifestyles (ah, the LOONNGGGG lines at the pump.....the alternating "odd/even" days to buy gas in some states....and those first, hideously under-powered, 4-bangers).

$2.00?? Premium (92 octane) is frickin' over $2.50/gallon here!!! Very very lame. $50 to fill up the wife's GX470!! Ugh.

On that note, the consensus is that gas prices have to top ~$4/gal before: a) SUV sales start to decline and b) demand for lower HP, more fuel efficient cars would increase in demand measurably.

Americans (me incl.) want their toys at ALL costs!!!

$.02

I want my toys too, but man have we become an environmentally irresponsible country. Who are we kidding? Nobody should be driving Hummers, other than soldiers.

here's my guess on a Type S

My guess on a type S is that Acura will use the SH-AWD from the new 2005 RL on the 2006 TL type S. Maybe boost HP to compensate for it. What do you think -- And have you seen the new RL -- WOW!
