Question 2004 Transmission

I have just put a deposit down on a White TL 5spd AT and am getting nervous reading about all the issues with the previous generations transmissions being replaced. Is the 2004 version using the same tranny? I have read comments that this may be less of an issue because of this drive by wire system, but how does that change the mechanics of the shift?
I am aware of this other phenomenon with the 2004 with the shaking at low RPMs but have any of you experienced slipping yet or had a tranny fail like in the previous generation TL?

I doubt very much that we will see any problems with this transmission; I'm sure Acura learned their lesson. However, it's too early to expect to see any failures. In 2003 TL-S these typically occured after 10-15K miles and only in something like 0.2% of cars. I doubt there's more than a handful of 04 TLs reaching 10K miles now...

If the new TL has the same problems I think Acura will be in serious trouble, as many of their customers buy a great deal on the premise of reliability of Honda products. Hopefully they will never make the same mistakes again, as it affected a great deal of V6 Honda transmissions.

It wasn't 0.2%. It was >2%. They lumped ALL of the cars with the same transmission together and claimed that all had a 2% failure rate. But the case was that the other versions of Hondas with that same transmission had lower failure rates. The TLS/CLS had >2% because of the higher horsepower/torque rating and the tranny couldn't handle it. You want to see how bad it is, go to the CLS forum and some are on their 2nd,3rd, 4th tranny :wow: I really hope the new ones can handle the higher horsepower.

I am glad to hear of no issues yet. It may to be soon to call it clear, but i will keep my eyes open. Thanks for your input. I am glad there are forums like this to educate folks on the real life performance rather than relying on the dealership.

That's another reason you should get the 6-speed.
