2004 Edmunds Most Wanted
2004 Edmunds Most Wanted
I could not find this posted, but Edmunds just rated the 04 TL the most wanted sedan under $35 K. The G35 was second and the 3 series BMW was third.
At least somebody in the car media likes this car and recognizes the value and capabilty of the new TL.

Are you sure?

EDIT: Ah, they won the consumer one.

I stand corrected. I saw the "new" most wanted section on the home page and took a look. I saw that the TL won the catagory, but failed to notice that it was the "CONSUMERS" most wanted. At least we know that we consumers think it the best.
Edmunds "editors" must still prefer the RWD cars. :smackhead

I've been Tivo'ing the "Car & Driver" shows on SpikeTV the past month and it amazes me how these magazines judge vehicles.
Racetracks? 145 MPH quarter mile? Torque steer? Horsepower? You kidding?
"Performance" for the average 35-55 year old daily commuting executive and "performance" for the un-average 35-55 year old magazine enthusiast are two markedly different things. It does not surprise me at all that the people buying the cars have different (I'd argue better) points of view.
It reminds me of the Wattage Wars on stereo receiver's in the 1970's. "It's 1000 watts per channel and is more powerful than any other receiver in the market" exclaimed Pioneer. Yeah, but with all the money needed to buy that flux capacitated beast, you couldn't upgrade the speakers enough to enjoy the extra 990 watts you didn't really need.
I can understand reviews of performance cars for true performance drivers. Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's.......that's where these racetrack tests make sense. But tell me that the Ford Focus got the best 0-60 time? Who cares how fast my grandmother drives to get groceries?
The TL's a great car. I woulndn't have bought it if it wasn't.

I have the same exact model Marantz. It rocks. When it was first passed down to me, I didn't appreciate it, but now I know better.
bolt - Great point. A similar analogy would be the writers in computer magazines. "Oh, this one rocks!!!!" they say, as I read further down and notice the PC they're reviewing costs $3,000 - in a era when decent PCs can be had for $700 or less.
