2002TL Vs. 2 - 2002 Maxima

aright, state: NY
highway : Wanwyck Queens Bound
Time : 12 AM

OK, i was comming from gym with my friend and there were two 2002 maximas ( i know 2002 cause when i stopped after exit they told me) they looked stock from outside i donno wats inside... Mine is stock from engine but drop and 18"...
Ne ways, BOTH maximas started racing each other as soon as they entered the highway and i was behind em, so i hit the pedal too .... Freakin Maximas were pulling away for about 100Mph.... and all of the sudden my Car like got mad or something and i started getting closer to them until i passed them and they were looking at me like watt!! ... and when we pulled on exit on Hillside... They asking me if my car is moded from inside and i was like its V-Tec kicked your ass .... no modifications... if i had modifications i would have taken off ... maximUM losers... HA HA HA

a 5.5gen max would beat you no problem if you are stock in a 02 tl-p. i know because I have a 99 tl-p w/I/H/E/P/S and a little more and I can barely beat a 02-03 AT Max and I can barely hang with a 02-03 6MT Max. My car is faster than a stock tl-s BTW.

i changed the 2002tl-p engine to 2003-S engine.... ive raced with about 10 maximas since i got my car...i never had a problem with beating them...unless its a race from one signal light to another cause than they will kill you because of their high torque... But when it comes to Highway.... you can beat them once your car is over a 100MPH.. (My Experience)

Yeah, the Maximas are no joke. They are just like the TL except apparently more powerful. It's a Lux sedan with some balls.

Yeah true man.... i dont get this part that Honda which suppose to be in Nissan's Level cant beat the maxima ... when accord is top of the line in honda as nissan's maxima... And those freakin Maxima's are tryin to compete with TL . And acura it self suppose to be the level of INFINITY... cause ive seen infinity G35 sedan cannot be beaten by a maxima but its a tough fight between the best drivers on Maxima and TL when we should be competing with infinitis...

coming from a 2000 maxima myself and driving frequently in my fathers 05 max... and test driving numerous 03 maximas before deciding on the tl.. i can safely say that the maximas are bad ass luxury cars, from a dead stop the maximas will kill the tl off the line and in a race (without hitting 100+mph) ive never hit over 100 myself in a race i feel that is excessive and completely not worth it, but from normal punching the gas fun, the maxima is a blast to drive. If it wasnt for the boat-like handling of the maxima id prefer it over the tl (purely the driving though, the luxury is obviously why i chose the tl in the first place) my 2000 max almost felt as powerful as my tl-s and that only has 222 hp... and ive raced my friends 2000 tl-p with my 2000 max and beat him pretty easily (it was only up to about 65 mph though) ... and currently owning an 02 tl-s.... i feel like its not quite up there with my fathers 05 in terms of speed, but the handling is superior (i can only speak from experience driving the SL model which is the luxury model, the SE might be a different story though)

G35s, Maximas and VQ35 Altimas tend to perform VERY similar to each other. That said, the I35 is the equivalent to the 5.5G Maxima you ran against and is technically the compeitition for the 2G TL....where the 5.5G Maxima "competed" against the 6G AV6 (which was not even close in performance).

As for your TL, was their any particular reason why you swapped in the J32A2 as opposed to just trading into a TL-S??

P.S: Go easy out there. I do not want to read about you in the Post.

A stock TL-S will not walk a 02-03 Maxima it's a driver's race , yes they will kill the TL off the line but won't pull on it nor will the TL pull on the Max. Stock for stock

You swapped for a TL-S motor? Somehow I find that hard to believe....

Anyway, a TL-S vs. 2002 max is a debate that's went on for a while. The better driver will win, although the TL-S would be quicker 70mph + from a highway punch do to the max's 4 spd. auto in those years.

That depends as well because TLS's donot pull well in that dreaded 4th gear at all.

Well in 02/03 the Max competed well with TLS and is still crossed shopped with the TL, it has always been a "tweaner car". The 02+ Altima is the car slotted to compete with Accords directly.

If you see my last post.. i put a story on how my engine got burned and the mechanic found a totalled 03-S (TL) and swapped the engine and every harness from my car to 03-S

Sounds like your internal gyroscope is in need some serious tuning.

Doesnt the 02-03 SE Max come with a 5spd AT?? I've raced a few b4. It could be a driver's race, but you better hope that Max isnt a 6speed!!

No. The 5.5G has a 4AT. The 5AT tranny did not appear in the Maxima until the 2004 3.5SE.

While still not a TL, Nissan did seriously upgrade the interior in the 2007 model and torque steer has been virtually eliminated.

my father has an 05 maxima SL... i actually think its pretty nice on the inside.. and i think the bose system sounds great..... idk just dont really see where the "cheap" part comes in... unless your referencing the terry cloth-esque trim around the doors and dash... in which case i will say i dont really agree with that being there, but other than that i have no complaints.

If you have the opportunity to spend a little time in an 02-03 Maxima, the cheap feel becomes fairly noticeable.....and the 02-03 is not exactly a Lexus in terms of interior quality. Besides exterior styling, the interior was reason#2 why I did not trade my 02 Maxima into an 05 model.

while i havent had a tremendous amount of time in the 5.5 gen maximas i did test drive 3 different 2003 GLE models after i sold my 2000 SE with leather... the 2000 felt cheap to me ... the 5.5 gen felt more refined but still not great... i actually felt like the seats in the 02-03 were almost identical to the 6th gen leather... my main gripe with the maxima leather in general is how it almost gets that dried out cracked look in it after a little while... obv the acura has better quality seats, but for your money you cant go wrong with a used maxima since they tend to hold their value a little bit less than TLs therefore making them cheaper, and still very reliable... i actually almost bought an 02 i35 with 35k miles for 15k with a dealership warranty, but i just didnt like the whole "old man" feel to it but i thought that the interior quality was great in that car... my final opinion though is that if i did have a 5.5 gen i would keep it since the 6th gens are geared more towards luxury rather than sportiness maximas were once notorious for.
