The 2 things I hate about the UA7 TL

I love everything about my TL! Except for two things....

1. The turning circle. Even for a FWD car, omg. It's like driving a bus.

2. The center stack 12V plug, positioned in such a way that you basically have to put the car in gear to access it.

/end rant

All good though, even the best cars have their annoying quirks.

Thought I was the only one that was bothered by the placement of the 12V plug!! Such a hassle to use sometimes.

Have to agree with the 12v plug. I have trouble removing the one I have. Not enough remove to get a grip.

Can't disagree with that. Turning radius is ridiculously wide. I can never pull a uturn anymore.

Center stack 12V plug is in the strangest location. The flap makes it cumbersome to plug something while trying to hold it open and you have little clearance with the shifter. I simply leave my USB adapter plugged at all times though so mitigated in the sense I don't need to do it everyday.

Totally agreed. I used to have an rx7 and that thing turned on a dime. There was only like two feet of car behind the drivers seat lol. Only two seats tho is not practical. 3GTL IS my bus.

And fuck that 12 volt spot AND the other 12 volt in the center console is crap too. I broke a cheap plug in there and its was such a pain to get the pieces out. Not enough space to get leverage.

It's that luxury style turning radius But yes, the TL is bad for that.

I am assuming the turning radius issue is on the autos?

Never gave turning radius OR the 12V thing a 2nd thought. My only beef with my UA7 (and any other 3G TL) is the most common of all - the leather wears out FAST!

Compared to my previous car which was an AWD, the TL turns fine. My older AWD was a guaranteed 5-7 point turn every stinkin time.

My 2 biggest complaints:

1. No folding rear seats.
2. Compliance bushings.

I always laughed at the fact my car cant turn, I thought it was because I have 9.5 wide rims up front, now that I know its the car im not so sure if I want to cry or continue laughing

There is zero point having a BBK on the back. if it's solely for looks, spend the $15 on gettingg the RDX caliper covers. Problem solved.

Also, why would you even bother buying a 3G if you know it's FWD and then proceed to complain about it?

Besides looking dumb, I think the brakes just suck on our cars.. I had to swerve off the highway the otherday when traffic came to a complete stop, just missing the guy in front of me who fully slammed on his brakes. Idnk, Maybe I'm just used to a lighter car w/ bigger brakes and more control. And i'm ocd with things matching..lol

I do realy like my car. I just think the 3g is a few notches away from being the perfect sports car!

That's a strange thing, considering Edmunds 60-0 for the Acura TL is 116ft and the 08 Nissan 350Z (closest comparable to your other garage queen) is 112ft. 30-0 is 28ft for both.

I'm not running oem brakes, rotors, wheels, tires or even weight.. I get they aren't really comparable.

Point being both are respectable braking distances for OEM cars of that size. The Infiniti G35 has a 60-0 of 112ft too.

And, all I said was 2 things I hated about our cars. And if those 2 things were changed, to me, it'd be close to the perfect sports car. The looks inside and out, is what originally brought me to the TLS.

Agree with both points.

1. Turning radius is garbage, but I feel this is all Acuras of that generation. Even my friend with a 06 TSX says his turning radius is garbage.

Trying to park into smaller lots is a pain.

2. The placement isn't so bad but it sure as hell isn't convenient like most cars are. It's in way too deep into the console and the gear shifter does tend to get in the way.

The size of the cup holders in it bug me, and I only use the plug in the console , not the one by the shifter, which is in an awkward spot. I've never noticed the turning radius being bad? But coming from a lifted Jeep, anything that doesn't make a 20point turn in an open field is heaven on earth. Also, the way the doors shut on their own bugs me.

It's a feature though, autoclosing doors! A bit of wind and there you go... oops door in somebody else's car.

As for the cup holders, it's not so much the size but the location combined with the depth. Can't have your hand on the stick & a tall drink in the cup holder at the same time. Not sure how the MT owners deal with that, it's annoying enough with an AT.

I think the MT turns tighter, something about the rack & pinion methinks.

I have a bad habit of sitting kind of halfway in / halfway out of my car when I'm getting in/out for a minute or two - which obviously upsets the TL, because she feels it necessary to close my leg in the door at full force. Never had it slam into someone's car though.

I have the manual. I think it turns like shit at slow speeds. Its actually very impressive for a FWD front heavy sedan turning at speed IMO. Ive never driven the auto, but if the manual is better its not enough to feel it.

My girlfriend has this stupid annoyingly tall water bottle I shouldve never got her. It cant go in the cup holder, because it gets in the way of the shifter. She insists on putting it in the door holder...

Im lucky my coffee mug fits driving to work every day. It is slightly too wide though and is hard to remove from the cup holder, it bends those tabs to max. Not too tall tho.

This is what I stuck in that outlet and have no issues. With no cables in it, the flap even closes. No need to ever unplug it anymore and I can close the door and such.

Yea, I use something similar - a USB connector that is stubby enough to allow the 12V cover door to close, along with the cubby hole door.

But it's still a PITA to attach the USB cable, requiring the shifter to be moved.

Just use the center console power connection. You can run the cable up through the paper tray, there's a small cutout for cables on one of the corners, and out the arm rest, there's another cutout there so it can close with a cable going through it. Your phone charges either in one of the cup holders or on top of the sliding cover and no cables dangling around. Most of the cable can stay inside the center console.

I've thought about this some more... the two things I HATE the most about the 3G in general is the cars that came after it:

1. the 4G TL
2. the TLX

I hate that the 3G was the epitome of TL design and styling. It's nothing but downhill from there...

Turning radius is a big issue for me. This car is considered to be a 'sports sedan' and in my opinion turning radius affects overall vehicle handling.

My 07 MDX (sold) had a lot better turning radius.
My wife's Sienna turns on a dime.
The 3G TL is a boat. The 4G TL and TLX is not at all better.

The only car that I drove that had a larger turning radius was a 2005 Altima SER that I owned for a year and a half.

I'm kind of surprised that turning radius is so often overlooked by reviews. It really makes the car a lot harder to drive.

It's not the leather portion of the seats that wears out, it's the crap vinyl side bolsters.

Our turning radius sucks too. It's 39.7 feet, regardless of transmission. For reference, a boat of a 2012 Dodge Charger has a radius of 37.7.

No complaints about the aux location? I hate how hard it is to plug a damn wire into that thing! +1 for the radius and 12v

My complaint is the tranny,If you install paddle shifters in your ''sport'' or S model at least modify the valve body/electronics for crisper shifts and rev matching when you select that mode.IMHO the type s should have been offered in manual only, especially when the auto the way its set up,with paddle shifter is lame.Zero improvement and does not up the fun factor...Quite a downer..Still love my MRP S for what it is.
