I have a 2008 base TL and my friend has a 2.5 altima coupe. He thinks he can beat me in a race. I havent really gotten into it with him because I dont race. But wouldnt I smoke him if I did? From a roll and from a digg. I didnt think the 2.5 would have a chance. Just curious. Thanks.

and what about the 07 or 08 maxima?

 

for the 2.5 altima coupe, run him from a dig and from a roll. you will not lose. if you do he's not tellin you something but you should smoke him easily.... for the maxima you might pull on him. not sure though. i pulled on an 05 maxima in my 03 TL-S. dont know about the 07-08. they be faster.

'01 Acura
-3.2TL - 225-hp 3.2-liter V-6

'08 Altima
-170-hp 2.5-liter I-4
-175-hp 2.5-liter I-4
-270-hp 3.5-liter V-6

Maxima 2.5
-Somewhere under 200HP..

'08 Maxima 3.5
-255 HP

You can easily beat a 2.5 Maxima, and the altima V-6 is a challenge.. Of course, if the car is stock..

 

Huh? he has an 08 base TL, thats 268hp to the flywheel. and his friend has a 2.5 altima that's 175hp to the flywheel. the 07-08 maxima have 265 flywheel hp

 

Altima 2.5s are a waste of gas.

I wouldn't even race.

The Altima V6 should handily beat a base 08 TL but on the 2.5 Altima. I would be interested in seeing how well a 6MT 2.5 Altima would do against a base 08 TL (which of course only comes in automatic).

The new Maxima 09 will tear us a new one. The below years, I'll walk them to school all day long, gots to love the TL-S.

My first car was a 97 Maxima SE.. Even with stillen supercharger, I would lose to my TL-S... Nissan makes very well built engines.

 

I remember racing what i thought was a 03-04 2.5 altima that walked my TL-S... After pulling in to a gas station this guy had a SE-R (with a 2.5 badge)complete with a custom single exhaust I was pretty much stock at the time...

SER's are quick man. those things dont play. raced one and driven one both experiences were impressive. i've always wanted to see one run a G35 in person

 

you mean 258hp for the base TL.

 

SE-Rs are about as quick as the regular 3.5SE.

 

With basic bolt ons and maybe an ECU flash, the 5.5G Maxima 6MT can hold its own with the 07-08 TL-S.

nice thread...there is a YouTube vid, out and forgive me for not posting it...but it has a 3.5 Altima beating a TYPE-S 07-08, and the OP said that he owns both cars, and the Altima won all 3 races.....please tell me that we have nothing to worry about with the 3.5 altimas, speaking of TYPE-S with minor mods...AEM...

 

It is a really good drivers race. It could go either way MT vs MT.

I know that JKgultimate on the nissan forums ran 14.2@100MPH stock in his 07 Altima 6MT. A stock 6MT TL-S is capable of that as well.

 

My son ran his Alti V6 down at Etown when Bruce ran his TL-S (LINK). He ran ~.1 and ~1 mph slower than Bruce that evening.

So, it's clearly a great matchup.

 

u think a new 09 maxima can take a TL type S i mean the maxima is 290HP and the Type S is 286 i think it would be a good race cuz the new maxima is heavy.. but id like to see a new 09 maxima run a new 09 TL -SH-AWD one..

 

The Maxima is handicapped by its CVT gearbox. It's quick, but at best it's as fast as the 3G TL-S 5AT.

 

My son who's driven the 09 Maxima of my friend (who also happens to be his boss) recently mentioned to me that it seems to be a fairly fast car...just about on par SOTPwise as his Altima. Personally, I'd need to see some 1/4 miles at the track before I can gauge how quick the 7G really is. (Honestly given the likely buying demographic of the new Maxima, I doubt we'll see too many at the track for the next few years.)

This 7th G Maxima took 16 seconds to hit 100 mph. The CVT seems to really take a toll on those 290 horsepower. If this is the norm for these cars, then a 5AT base would be the only 3G TL to have a problem with them.

 

it did the Quarter mile in 14.7 hmm intresting. i think a TL. type S VS the new 09 Maxima would be a good run.. my friend just picked one up he picks it up on thursday im gonna ask him if i can drive it or if hell race my sisters 2006 TL for shits and giggles..lol..

I hope its not the same video Jowen is referring to. I actually emailed it to my boi who had a g coupe and he said the TL won cuz the G coupe driver sucked.

 

Check out Trell's vidoes of his 09 Maxima on youtube. He beats the crap out of that car! I think he has raced everything in site! Very interesting to see his stock 08 Maxi vs his stock 09 Maxi(his 08 is faster). He also races a toyota avalon and M45. Great low end and midrange but the 09 Maxi falls flat on its face in the 90-100MPH range. You will see the avalon pull pretty hard in the high end.

No disrespect, but I give props to only one nissan, that's the GT-R, I seen it at the dealer last night. The new z and maxima were there also, neither one bad, but it's funny how they look like crap when standing next to the GT-R, specifically the Z.

Although I may be wrong, I have seen the Maxima go through like 2 generation changes and not really get any faster. Nice car, but nobody does front drive like Honda. Honorable mention: Altima SE and SE-R for straight line performance.

Nice to see the nissan guys know the deal when it comes to the TLS, could it have to do with how well they can compete with the G models?

 

That guy, slvrbackgorilla, is a smart man, questioning the race.

Seems every post that comes up, that guy keeps adding new stuff to the story to "prove" it was a manual.

You do realize that there is nearly a $50k difference in base prices, don't you? So the GT-R should be more substantial than the 370Z.

How much faster does it need to be as an upscale family car? That said, the new Maxima as nice a car as its ever been (even more than my 02 Maxima) and makes up for that thing that was the 6G Maxima.
