so does that mean i can get an aftermarket say 8k bulb and it will work on my stock car without having to add the ballast?

Just a simple swap out?

Also what size is the headlights?

Most people go for the 6000Ks but I for one love 8000ks! If you like the blueness then you'll be happy. I love the color, makes reflective signs glow cool. I know, I'm Got matching lower fogs too.

I'd say don't go past 10,000k, that's just too much color and unsafe. On a rainy night you'll run over anything in your way. It makes the black road look flourescent black. lol. Blue totally gets aborbed by black and dosen't reflect crap.

If you want better visibility though stick to 6000k.

Any idea what k would produce green light? I saw an Aston Martin with them in a picture, thought it was cool, though not something I would do.

I'm sorry, I think you have to be a jackass to buy these, they'd look so bad. Not to mention automatic ticket from any cop on the road.

I have no intent of buying them, I just thought they looked sick on the Aston Martin car, which isn't street legal by any stretch of the imagination.

Are the stock HID's on a TSX the same temp as the ones on a TL? The lights on my TSX seemed brighter?

I've heard that the stock HID bulbs should last the life of the vehicle.. is that generally true?

I'm more than pleased with the stock color, personally.

That is PURPLE!!!!!

Mu1980- HID will most likely last the length of the time you own your vehicle. Unless something obviously disrupts its "state of mind" then its gonna get mad and blow on ya

This is retarded...

Halogen bulbs offer more usable light output than HID 14000K.

Way to tunr your excellent performing HID headlight into a purple infrared flashlight.

Aestetics is one thing. Seriously compromising performance and safety to fit that image is another.

Want some 22's to go with that?

You guys have a lot to learn.

I had 6600k on my G35 Coupe and 6000k on my M3

After driving on the freeway for a while I noticed my eyes beginning to hurt...also the output was noticably worse so I switched back to stock...

But the higher kelvins like 6k do look nice

i got some 12000k's in my fogs... bought them for my integra 3 years ago but they fit in the tl fogs so its in there. the light output is ok but it aint the greatest.
it does help me see more then the stock hids in the rain though.

maybe i should just go with 8500k hid and do a 8500k or 3000k hid foglight conversion, and set my 14000k bulbs aside to collect dust. What do you guys think?

Good route. Nice contrast. You'll be able to see better than those 14,000ks

I was going to do 3000K lower fogs but I found that some are really nice and yellow (the more expensive brands) and the others aren't all that yellow. Well, if I was going to do them, I was going to do real yellow.

I just did an 8000k match for now. I'm sure I'll get bored in a year and get 3000ks.

Here's a pic I just found of my old STI that had them.... looks pretty, but the actual light output sucks, and without fog lights, your screwed... lol

nice!!! i was kind of leaning towards the 3000k hid foglight conversion, because i saw an 18 wheeler with some deep yellow fogs wasn't sure if they were hid or not but they were ******* "BRIGHT" and it just caught my attention right away!

to the OP

this is 8000k and 8500k bulbs with 2500k fogs...

the 8000ks are NOT brighter, the bulbs just werent aimed correctly.... the 8500K are Kaixen, and they are BAD ASS.... light loss is very minimal.. the no name 8000k's were dimmer....

so currently i've got the Kaixen 8500 & Nokya 2500k Halogen H8's.. ya gotta see it in person

Yeah, thats pretty much the perfect combo, imo. I have the Nokya 2500k's and they're the perfect shade of yellow, unlike other bulbs which are more of a cream color

^^^Thats what I want for my fogs HID 3k . Im tired of going thru the cheap Halogen yellows.. I buy a set like once a month .. I was worried about the HID bulbs melting the cover inside the housing . The part that covers the bulb for reflection..

What makes people think that HID's run hotter and draw MORE power than halogens?

They run the same temp, if not cooler... and draw less current than a 35W halogen bulb...

converted, you are correct... HIDs draw less Wattage.. they just require more voltage (25,000 volts to ignite, and 13V to run i believe)

heres another shot of my 8500K.. i still think they are the best possible color available... but colors always vary on bulb manufacturers

Well, wattage is a calculation of volts x amps (V*A = W), so regardless of the amount of voltage required, if a headlight takes 35W vs. 55W, regardless of voltage, it's consuming less overall power.

You're correct, in that it requires 10's of thousands of volts just for the initial ignition, which draws around 55-60W of power... but that soon peaks, and then levels out around 35W for most HID systems, at least most of the cheaper aftermarket ones. Some even draw less than 35W...

Some people will blow a fuse, and assume that the system is drawing more power, when in reality, it was just the initial spark that was causing the current rush...

i have 12000k for my headlights and 10000k for my fogs...the 10000k defintily give the best light output in my opinion..other than the original 4300k HIDs. i use my 12000k for show...with the highbeam on and my fogs at night for visibility.
