A-110(a): DIY Guide to replacing 3rd & 4th gear pressure switch for 3G TL (2004-2006)

I did this today, it was easy, i can notice a small difference, it does feel smoother, nothing major. I would say i could have done without this , maybe the previous owner of my tl did this before i bought it ?? Who knows

05 TL 5AT here with 89K miles. So far, the tranny's been flawless. I have been hearing a little whine but no shuddering or held gears. I'll be changing out the sensors this weekend along with the 3x3 change.

Its amazing how easy this was, it took about 30 minutes total to do this and the acura dealership was charging around 500 to do this work. This writeup is amazing. We just did this on a TL with 121,000 miles on it...it was long overdue.
#51
It is, but the 07-08 TL / TL type-s AT's are a tweaked trans from the 03-06 MDX. I did the swap on my '03 X. You guys have 2 - 4th gear pressure sensors on top of the case, which means you have to remove the intake duct from the throttle body & airbox to gain access. The MDX only has 1 - 4th gear pressure sensor on top, which is a testament to their function to maintaining appropriate line pressure to prevent excessive low pressure wear. You might also have to remove the battery. It shouldn't be that much more complicated though. You can check out my DIY link that I made for the MDX.

Yes - but unless you're able to drop the whole AT case, you can't change it out because it's internal to the housing.. unlike 04-06 TL's which are on the external area of the case. Just change out the ATF on accelerated intervals to prevent the filter from clogging.

Wow!
AFTER READING ALL THIS AND FROM WHERE IT ORIGINALLY POSTED I HATE CARS, I WONT HAVE TO DO ANYMORE RESEARCH. THIS IS AN EYE OPENER FOR ME. LIKE MANY OF YOU AGREE PREVENTING IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN REBUILDING OR PAYING 500 DOLLARS AT THE ACURA SERVICE CENTER.
MY 04 TL HAS 71K THIS WILL BE A GREAT INVESTMENT.
I DONT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT TWICE.
THANKS

Thanks for those part numbers! Did a 3x3 at 45K on my 07 TL-S and she runs soooo much smoother. I only did a drain and fill the first time around 22K but will prob be doing a 3x3 from now on. Didnt take too long anyways, the first one already takes the most time removing the splash panels, etc. Will order these pressure sensors now and install when I get them...I love this site!

This seems like great info. and the reviews are mostly possitive. I am getting ready to do this and I want to know how much should I tighten the switches. is there a specific spec or is this not an issue?
I am not adept at mechanics at all but this seems like a simple job. And I am soooo woried about loosing a tranny I think it is well worth the peace of mind.
Thanks to the OP for the info.
Peace,
Rolan

x1 4th Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7W-003)
x2 sealing gasket (90471-PW7-A00)

afaik, the part numbers I referenced were the right ones. the chart provided by Majofo shows the distinct differences in physical appearance even though spec-wise they are the same.

I just installed the new switches today and now the transmission light is flashing on the dash. Could anyone tell me what i did wrong.
Also my 04 shifts so much smoother now, and the shuddering is completely gone. My car has 74k on it, before i changed the switches my trans shifted very sloppy especially 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th. If anyone has those symptoms id deffinately suggest doing this.

Installed the switches last Sunday. To be honest it did not resolve my shuddering issue. I do notice a difference with shifting but its only third and fourth now shift a little bit later.
I also noticed my TF is pretty brownish so Ima change it as soon as I get a chance.
Do I need to change the Washers (drain plug and fill plug) for the ATF change or could I forgo this?
Thanks,
Rolan

ok i called my acura dealer to order the switches today gave them the part number given by the OP and acura dealer told they were wrong and told me the ones i needed are the ones give em by MAJOFO....
im not sure if maybe the 2g switches are the reason eveyone's trans is workin better but i would like to kno what i should order before tomorrow thats when i plan to go get them.
is there really any difference in the switch between the gen's?

Like Rolan, this didn't solve my shuddering issue either. I'm big time disappointed because it really sounded like this would fix it...
I'm changing my trans fluid next.

I guess this works for some and not others. After driving my car for a year before doing the switches, I've always had the shudder going from 4th to 5th. Since the switches have been installed it's eliminated the shudder completely. If it wasn't for my exhaust I probably wouldn't feel or hear any of the gear changes. Very satisfied with the improvement and will probably change them again at 25k.

I just bought my car recently with a 2 year warranty, is there anyway I can the dealer to cover the replacement of the both sensors/switches?

No biggie though.
I bough the switches at Norris acura west and got the ATF and the switches put in by a local mechanic.
