100 wet shot
100 wet shot
I just ran with a mid 90's supra w/bolt-ons and an evo X a filter and exhaust tonight. The supra was left about 10 car lengths back and I'm assuming he was a bad driver or mis-shifted. I managed to pull about 2 cars on the evo on the first highway run from about 55-120. The next run I pulled about about a car or so from 80-130 something. The next run I pulled about a half car then the nitrous started to surge due to the bottle mounting which I need to fix, which allowed him to pull about 2-3 cars on me from 90-120ish.
I'm glad I was able to run down some cars that run about mid 13's...It makes me glad I had the 100 shot armed lol. Now I know pretty much where I stand on the street and what not to waste my spray on.
This makes me want more power, but I'm not gonna push things with the dd. That's what my 240 is for.
Tranny is still holding up just fine.
The whole event was pretty exciting and funny. When we rolled up to a redlight after I showed the evo up twice he looks over and says in a suprised voice "ha! I guess you're built huh?!" I was like, "NOPE! pretty much just running a 100 shot through a couple bolt ons" I lol'd and told him "I'd run you again but I'm too low on nitrous...and you pulled on me a bit when I was surging"
Pretty much after that I turned on my street and continued with the drive back home from the grocery store before the milk got warm lol.
I'm thinking I may have the fastest second gen TL in AZ, possibly the fastest TL in AZ period. If someone wants to run to test this out feel free, just pm me. I'm not trying to be cocky, I'd just like to know where I stand with the other TL's in AZ. I'd like to get her to the track soon to see what I'm running. Keep in mind I'm at 4500ft and probably gonna be hot out now that summer is coming in, so the 1/4 mile times will be a few tenths slower...but so will every other car down here.

Thats cool youre having fun with the 100 shot. Boy if you could only experience a 325 shot on an engine that already makes ~500...talk about fun! Makes you feel like youre Webster getting shoved into your seat by Arnold..

I have a buddy with a 98 camaro ss that's running a 250 shot...other than that, the fastest car I've been in is my 240, which has no nitrous at the moment, just straight boost.
On the TL I'm running the wet shot through a p2r spacer, but I have an outlaw spacer in between the p2r and the TB because when I was looking at the TB plate I noticed when it was fully open it may just have tapped the nozzle. So yeah, stacking 2 spacers motha fvcka! lol. I've checked my plugs after a full bottle of the spray and they look fine. I'm running zex plugs that are 2 steps colder, a gas mix which comes out to be about E30, and a fuel jet that is 23% bigger to handle the extra 20-25% ethanol and give me a little more to be safe on top of that. I'm not using any sort of timing control. In a perfect world I would be 3-4 degrees retarded but the plugs and gas I'm using are my detonation resistance for now. Once I get her on a wideband at the dyno we'll figure out what fuel jet to use with the nitrous.
I just topped off my bottle and I'm ready for the weekend. I'm going to Tucson with the wife and hopefully I'll find some more victims....but there's a butt-load of supercharged mustangs and modded evo's/sti's that will rip me apart around there.

Im sure you already know this but make sure your nozzle isnt kicked to one bank or the other on the intake..
far as checking plugs-the best and really only accurate way is: make a full fledged pass and shut it (engine) down immediately after you lift the throttle and pull a plug for a reading. You will wash the reading off the plugs if you let it idle before pulling the plugs. (Really, as much as youre spraying a plug reading shouldnt be necessary-but if you decide to spray more in the future...)
you should be fine on pump gas-(93 octane, right?)you might want to pull 4 degrees just to be safe..normally 2-4 for the first 100 and 2 for each 50 after that..but leaner the better.
What kind of bottle pressure you starting with?

ok, well it is the zex blackout kit. This kit adjusts fuel according to bottle pressure. I don't have a gauge so I couldn't tell you. And yes, the plugs were checked right after a couple runs in a row, then pulled into the driveway and checked....yes I gave it a quick 1st-2nd pull up tot he driveway. The plugs are heat ranges colder and my octane is close to 95, so I'm not too worried about pulling timing at the moment. I am also running a fuel jet that is about 7% bigger than what I actually need for my E30 mix to help reduce detonation. I haven't noticed any knocking, detonation, or backfires yet. The kit has worked flawlessly in every gear...except 5th, I haven't had a chance to test it in that gear yet. The ecu hasn't bugged out about anything so it's not sensing knock either, or I'd be in safe mode. Tranny shifts as smooth as the day I bought the car a little over a year ago. There's been no odd noises or performance issues.
I tested the solenoids and nozzle off of the car and the nozzle sprays outward a little more than inward, which is good because the tip sticks into the intake stream about 1/3 of the way from the front of the car...so the stream angle should put the jet roughly down the center of the air stream. Even if it's a little off, there is still about 4 inches or so for it to mix evenly enough before the plenum splits the airflow.

By bottle pressure I mean what is your actual pressure reading on the nitrous bottle right before you start spraying?
Funny news, I was about to get video for you guys and I did...but In the process I metled an intake valve on the front passenger cyl. (I don't remember the firing order but it's the one closest to the pulley side and on the front of the car). So here's how it went. I do a pull from about 80-110ish and as it was about to go into 4th I ended up running a little dry on nitrous due to some pulls earlier and using a 100 shot...so I ran excessively rich for a few seconds. I said, fuck it, lets try it again...welll my bad I try it again and I get into 4th and it felt like it fell on it's face. So when I get off the exit I pull over at a gas station and the car is idling like I fouled a plug. I said damn...and drove the rest of the 30 miles home. This morning I broke out the tools and started pulling plugs, and compression testing as I went. I get to that one cylinder and pull the plug and see the carnage and was like holy fvck...that's my problem right there. Hoping that it was just a mutilated plug(even though I knew it wasn't), I continued to compression test that cylinder and I got 0 PSI. The rest of the cylinders were all between 175-205 Most hanging around 190 something. I checked with the FSM and as long as the lowest cylinder is a minimum of 75% of the highest I'm within specs. My lowest is about 85% of my max so I'm fine with that. If I had ring damage I'd see something on the compression. So I've either bent or fried a valve. Car drive fine under moderate acceleration, just when idling or cruising at certain speeds in fifth gear under certain engine loads it starts shaking.
I continued to tear off the mani and valve cover to see if any damage could be seen from the top, luckily everything looks good from there and it looks like I'll just be tearing the front head off and replacing a few valves and throw in a fresh head gasket.
Well here's the priceless photos...
Good spark plug(this is what all of them look like except 1)

And several pics of the Bad spark plug

damn, that sucks. after spraying numerous time my 100 dry shot, my trans blew before any engine damage was done. i got the same plugs (good stuff). get a bottle pressure gauge as recommended before
Oh, and before the nitrous is sprayed again, I'll be running a direct port into the runners and a remounted bottle. Judging by the space under the intake mani I'll be investing in a second manifold spacer to allow the nozzles to fit in properly. My wife and I are also in the market for a black or wdp 3rd gen TL-S or a BMW Z4 for a less modified TL dd for when things like this happen. So if anyone in AZ or bordering states is trying to sell one of those cars I just listed I'd be interested. Finally about to ship the 240 down here from NY but that's not really much of a street car.
I was really irritated about the fact I'd used most the bottle again. RRR. I guess it was worth showing this old guy in a vette that his car wasn't as fast as he thought it was. This old dude raced me on I-10 from tucson to sierra vista and he jumped me by about a bumper so I was even with his trunk and then vtech kicked in a split second later lol and I began to pull on him...then cars came up on my lane...we both braked..I looked over at him and he was staring straight forward and wouldn't look at me. I assume is ego was busted by our stock looking honda lol. I tried to provoke him again, but he got off the next exit pretty quick haha. Oh, it was just one of the early 2000's vettes...If it was an 06 or later he probably would have pulled a few car lengths on me.
Anyway, here's the video...my wife was filming....

The check engine comes on whenever the nitrous surges and makes me run ungodly rich, which ends up covering the plugs for a few seconds with a nice coating of fossil fuel. When the plugs are that covered it will undoubtedly miss and not ignite very well at all...but yes I do usually pull of the throttle when I see the blinking...It was my bad for what happened because I wanted to push it more. I've never burnt a valve before. I've bent them...but not melted lol.
Because we only have 91 octane around here. So I do about 1/4 e85 mix which brings it to around E25-30 and 94-95 octane depending on the mix. It's just for a little extra caution. At idle and cruise when the 02 sensor is in use it will compensate with the extra fuel it needs. When it goes to acceleration maps it will probably run a little leaner, like higher 13's in the afrs. When the nitrous is armed and sprayed however, I have a larger fuel jet than what is needed for the 100 shot of normal gas, this way I don't need larger injectors and a tune for them. I can just adjust the fuel jet needed for additional or less fuel when nitrous is added.
Like I said before, I'll be going direct port before I use it again. I will most likely also raise it up to a 125 shot when I do however. The E30 isn't enough to rot out my fuel lines, but I wouldn't run anymore than that or else my pump and injectors may be pushed too much. I'll also be upgrading my fuel pump to handle to extra load with the 125 shot.

why no also get bigger injectors and a tune. that way u get the most out of your mods. u can get the 370cc s2k injectors which require no modifications or the 410 cc rdx injectors which are cheaper and u have to trim the jinjector a bit and switch ur oem o rings to the rdx injector. i did a write up on how to do all that. got pics and everything
If I do any sort of piggy back I'll be upgrading injectors, but the piggy back would be mainly for timing control. I don't care what I get out of my mods n/a. And since the fuel added when the nitrous kicks in is controlled by jet size, that's the only fuel control I need at the moment. Eventually I'll probably get some sort of timing control/piggyback.
I still think you need to adjust timing some. Have you ever monitored your fuel pressure while spraying? That fat jet you have in the fuel side may be putting too much stress on your fuel pump. Also-I would use regular old NGK-R recessed tip plugs while spraying. Too much electrode sticking out on those plugs you have in the pic.
Really-based on how much nitrous youre using it should be very hard to screw something up..no offense..lol, Im just amazed you did that much damage with such a small shot.
You didnt happen to touch the rev limiter by chance on any of your passes, right?

Nothing is dreadfully wrong, sometimes you get the shit end of the stick. The same thing could have happened with a 25 shot, 150 shot, etc.My afr's in that cylinder must have been fvcked. This is why I'm going direct port. Hell, many v8 guys screw their valves n/a with around the power I'm running. I may or may not use different plugs. I'm still debating that. The only reason I used these is because they were colder. I couldn't find any easily available colder plugs. I like the ngk iridiums but if someone can point me where to find some in a 7 heat range that will fit this vehicle it would be greatly appreciated. I am worried about fuel pressure and amount of fuel, which is also why I'm getting a more capable pump. I have a port for a wideband and will use one once my 240 gets down here. I don't see the point in spending money on another one when I can transfer it back and forth in 10 minutes. I may install a bottle pressure gauge also.
It still looks like to me the front 3 cyl were getting more spray which is what helped cause this. I got the nozzle into the middle as much as possible but I still don't think it was close enough.

I would have expected the cars speed to climb faster than it was. I've never taken my TL to redline in any gear over second, because it's my dd, and I have a sports car that wouldn't put up a fight with the TL; even with a 100shot.
I was never a fan of nitrous but there's no doubt that it can catch people off guard, like Ken240sx's case!

Well it would typically climb faster and I was thinking to myself that seemed a bit slower than what it was before. I guess I found out why after I pulled over at the gas station right?
There were no sounds of detonation or pinging at any point that night, and the car performs close to normal throughout most of the rpm range.

Do you have any other mods on your car?
I haven't been modding the TL much at all and don't plan to at all because all my money went into my Mr2...But I did just get a NOS system with a huge 20lb bottle for free! I was thinking about trying to convert it to be used as a fire extinguisher system... Or I could just sell it!

^^^lol..nitrous isnt flammable by itself..
Youre not going to find any kit that comes with a button that mounts on the steering wheel..lol. If you were to spray an engine at low RPM part throttle it wouldnt have a very good outcome, more than likely engine damage. The thing youre referring to is a window switch that only allows the nitrous to be active from a certain engine RPM range (ie 3k-5.5k). All nitrous kits are throttle activated -designed for WOT only.
Man you guys watch too much Fast and Furious..lol
I would sell it as a kit becuase it is one that doesn't have a button, it sprays the N2O at wide open throttle at 3,000rpm iirc(it was previously on a Z28 camaro)

hes not talking about a button that is mounted on the steering wheel or anywhere else. hes talking about the activation switch so u can go WOT and not spray than activate the system by flipping the switch and then spray at WOT.
u can pick up the switch at any auto parts store for pennies. the window switch is just a bonus.

The window switch is a great idea, especially for beginners-you keep from banging the rev limiter on the spray and it drastically reduces the chances of a nitrous hiccup.

DUDE I WANT "NOS" hahahah jk aside I do want nitrous after this story.
If I got it I wouldn't tell anybody I'll just let there jaw drop in awe and I'll wave bye bye.

well, while the Tl is off the road due to getting a direct port installed, replacing the headgasket in front, installing pump, injectors, safc, and ignition control, I decided to buy a 95 camaro that's getting boosted by the end of next months. It is already modded quite a bit including aftermarket internals and valvetrain...so I should have some fun with that. But yeah, the only other mods I have to the TL is UR pulley, headers, p2r TB spacer, plenum/runner spacer, and my homemade intake lol.
