'08 TLS rear bumper repaint

Previous owner had bumper repainted and the paint on the horizontal portion of the bumper bubbled and peeled. Estimate from the local Acura dealer's body shop to re do it came to $580...anyone like to comment on whether or not this is a fair price?

I'm in Indianapolis if location matters...

I'd expect more like 250-350.... That's steep.

I need my front and rear bumpers repainted, actually filled an insurance claim this week to get my rear bumper fixed from shopping cart damage. I'd like to get enough $ from State Farm to have the front and rear repainted.. just not sure who to take it to here. (in Atlanta area)

I've heard quotes from about $600-$700 for the rear only. That includes taking off, sanding, "bondo", and repainting.

For a pearl paint...$550-$770 seems very fair including bumper removal, prep, and installation.

Also depends on the color of the paint as well...

If the shop is mixing the paint themselves which is almost always the case, I would say 250$ is very reasonable.

My shop charges 250 a panel no matter what you're painting; fender, bumper, hood, etc. They even gave me a discount when I do more than 1 or 2 pieces.

They gave me that price for my DGP TL and for my ugly champagne Tahoe.

no not unreasonable.

i just recently went through two paint ordeals with both cars. comes down to prep.

i had my rear bumper replaced and painted=almost $700 (this was a warranty job by the shop (but not the original shop)....long story). estimate for a sand and respray $600 at a high end shop. the original insurance job was over $900 (replace and spray, done at a high end shop, which obviously didn't prep adequately since the paint failed).

tailgate sand and respray for the lower panel on my MDX estimate: $600-800.

so with all that said...if you can get it done for less, make sure the painter knows what the hell he is doing, otherwise your bumper will bubble and peel again. if its a large enough area, the cheaper way to do it...buy a bumper and then have the shop paint it for you. the $580 you quoted is not unreasonable.

1. Don't use the dealer, 99.9% of them suck at paint and body
2. Don't be cheap. Quality paint takes time and isn't particularly cheap to do right. Bumpers use a paint with a flex agent in it and if the process isn't done right (and usually isn't if you get it done cheap) it will peel and bubble like it is doing now.

^ this.

You can get a brand new rear bumper cover on acura oem parts dot com for less than 300 and have it sprayed for less than ~200. New shit > old shit w/ body filler and extra layers of paint with imperfections that may come back.

Hadn't thought of this option...thanks for bringing it up!

Appreciate all the responses...sounds like it isn't unreasonable, but there are some who have been able to get it done cheaper.
