'07 tranny compatible with '04?

i found good deal on an 07 5AT with low miles but i am not sure if it will work in my 04. i called the acura dealership and they could not give me a definite answer. I planned on doin a 6MT swap but the TL is my daily driver and im sick of waiting i am going to postpone this project. education is more of a priority.
If any one knows please respond i need to know asap before this tranny gets sold

It was my understanding that it would work. The trannies in our 3.5 gen TL is a hybrid of the 2nd gen RL 5 spd auto because it can withstand more torque so that it stays cooler. My family friend owns the Honda/Acura dealer here in my town. I can call up there right now if you'd like and be sure. I also know the Odyssey's tranny works as well.

Ok he wasn't at his desk but he's there so I left him a message. He'll call me back soon. I'll post what I find out when I get the call.

No the 07 transmission will not work because of the extra 4th or 3rd sensor. Meaning an extra plug for wiring on the transmission. Your 04 -06 does not have the connector on the main engine harness so it will not work. You will need an 04-06 transmission

ok so the newer transmission does not bolt up to my engine.....if bought and 07-08 engine and transmission, would i be able to put that in my 04? i would obviously need a newer ECU as well. can anyone verify this???

^^^yes you are correct, I think in some later year Honda revise the ECU mapping to reduce torque steer but I am not sure if this applied to the AT ECU. My main question is, why you would go through that much headache instead just return your ride back to stock sell it and get a 07-08 TL it save you time, $$$ and headache. the positive side to that is you may get a lower mileage TL too.

because my transmission does not work...rebuilding it costs over 2k....i found and 08 engine with tranny (automatic) for under 2k and it only has 27k miles on it...i had my eyes on an 04 manual at a salvage auction but the bidding exceeded my budget. it was sold for 4400.

believe me i am considering many many options but i dont need to post all my thots and ideas this is a forum using for exchanging info, not facebook. i dont even have a fucking facebook amnyways lol

I dont see why you couldnt drop in the 08 motor. However. the wiring harness would still be different for the 08 tranny in your 04. Not sure what else to say

the seller is including the harness, ecu and engine to ecu harness, the tranny is still mounted to the engine...I called acura and all the asshole told me was when they bring in cars with trany problems they order for the same exact year. no help at all.....logically honda would not redesign engines and trannys year after year after year. this is becoming very stressful. it seems that i can not get a definitive answer without spending over 2k.

uuuuuuuuuuugh

it's unfortunate because no one really has attempted it. I would also be worried about how the ECU works with your older HVAC, radio, gauges, etc. You might have an excess of plugs on the new harness, etc.

there could be several small things acura tweaked, and honestly not a lot of acura mechanics would even know the differences, nor care to learn them since they're trained to put the proper parts into the proper cars.

looking for an 06 trany if you scare of AT issue, BTW not all of us is certified Honda Master mechanic so our input aren't provide full mechanical knowledge. 95% of us here are just typical Acura owner, I understand your situation that you are frustrated and don't know what to do, you post and ask AZ response with our best knowledge about TL, not too many people in this forum is professional mechanic, may be you should ask people like Endless Acura (I think that is his user name). beside that you will get a vague response from average Acura TL owner here. After all its your money so do whatever you feels like it if you don't think other people idea are good then don't listened to them and you don't have to curse like a kid.

good choice. I also forgot I dont know how the 07-08 ECU would handle the '04's lack of TPMS..if it was an error, that message on your MID would get super annoying if it even worked.
