'07 TLS - Too good to be true?

Hello everyone!

I recently received some bad news concerning my 2003 A4 that has put me in the market for a new ride. I've always been a fan of the TLs and I think the time has come for me to finally own one.

I found a 2007 TL-S automatic with 27k miles on it for just under 22k. I haven't been looking for very long, but this seems like a great deal.

Anything specific I should check for or need to worry about? I've read through the threads here, and everyone seems to be very happy with their TLs (other than an apparent addiction to mods...).

Are you in the GA area? I found a KBP TL-S with the same mileage and price on craigslist. If in fact, it is a clean title it is a great deal. Is this one it? http://macon.craigslist.org/cto/2956670975.html

I guess type-s is worth more, but I got my '06 6sp with NAVI (rare combo and color) with 19,000 miles certified for 22,500 (24 with tax title etc) over 2.5 yrs ago. I think u can find a better deal or at least with lower mileage.

Run a CARFAX and have an inspection done. If all checks out, you'd be stupid to not get it. Good luck and sorry to hear about the A4!

Hey guys, I also am in the market for a TL-S. I am currently deployed and I am about to return home. Do you guys have any tips or secrets I should know about this car? I'm also brand new to the site and extremely excited to join. Thanks!

Give it a good look over. Make sure the VIN are on all the major parts, such as the fendors, etc.
You may want to have a mechanic give it a once over inspection.
Right now, there are no recalls on the Type-S.

Oh, and welcome to AZ
Thanks for serving our great country!! Retired Navy myself.

CVT Transmission going out. Apparently those do not last very long in my body style.

THIS WAS TOTALED IN AN ACCIDENT! Don't buy it! I almost bought this car, but I ran a Carfax on it and it came up as being totaled in an accident. Let me see if I can find the Carfax information...

I talked with the owner, and apparently the TLS was repaired after an accident. The fender was replaced and the door was repaired.

I'm going to take a look, and I'll definitely get an inspection if I decide to move any further.

Thanks for the quick replies, and I'll keep everyone posted!

Are you sure it was totaled? The guy just mentioned it was in an accident (although he is the one selling it, so I'll take your word if you've come across this one).

Looks like the search will continue...

The car was totalled. That is a hell of a lot more than just a fender and a door. Do not buy this car.

Yes, the search will continue. Don't buy this car. I looked long and hard at it, and determined it wasn't worth the hassle to buy a car that was a total loss at one point.

$22k is not worth it to buy a salvage title, I would not buy that car at all. I know it too good to be true, usually that year Type S going at least for $23K but they are list for around $26k.

The right one will eventually show up. You may want to broaden your horizons and look for a nice lower mileage base TL for less coin.

Sorry to hear about your Audi. The transmission in my S4 failed at 73k which was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. That car had sooooo many problems. I'm glad I traded it in for my TL.

Good luck with your search!

I was wondering why that car was so cheap. You'll find another one eventually, keep looking

Ah, sorry to hear about yours as well. I really had fun with the Audi, but it did have its fair share of problems (fortunately the major ones were under warranty).

I just heard some good news though - I've found a car I can use for a couple of months, which will let me be a lot more patient with the search.

You all have been a huge help so far, and I'll keep everyone posted with the search. I think I'm going to target 07 and 08 models. From reading through the forums, it seems like these cars have few (if any) differences, so mileage comes into play more than the year.

Wow! Good CARFAX catch! I realize the MILEAGE was extremely low on the car... hence considered a "good deal", but since I got mine for $10k (albeit WITH some mileage... but ALL services done!) I guess I'm inclined to think there are BETTER deals out there!

GOOD LUCK!
