07 tl-s 6mt vs 08 accord coupe ex-l w/nav 6mt

So I was looking at an 07 TL-S and then saw that for less money and less miles i can get an 08 accord coupe.

this is what i know as comparison:
the tl-s has a limited slip and an auto dimming mirror... the accord doesnt.

the accord has a folding rear seat.... the tl-s doesnt.

the accord should also not have the 3rd gear issue as its an 08.

when i did a little research online i found a lot of complaints about the accord's rear brake pad wear but am not sure if that is easily solved by replacing the pads (which should be already done as the accord i'm looking at has 40,500 miles).

I also saw complaints about road noise, etc.

anyone with personal experience?

Nearly the same car, but the TL-S will win in my opinion.

Assuming you're getting the V6 Coupe, they are nearly the same in HP. I don't like the rear of the Accord. The TL-s has better handling and has a better quality interior. The Accord has by far the ugliest radio controls (about 100000 of them).

At the end of the day this is only thing that matters.

The TL-s is a man's car.
The Accord is a girl's car.

I'd rather get an Acura over a Honda if I had a choice.

I didn't like the increased wind and road noise in the Accord vs the TL.

There is a difference between Acura and Honda. 3GTLS has an inferior looks/feel while you see a million of honda accords on the road everyday.

I think that there is something to the exclusivity. When you are talking used as you are I would say that the Accord has more to depreciate...do you care about this?

I believe that my 07 TL-S has less then 2K of depreciation per year in it for the next 3-4 years and less then 1K after that....

The accord probably has 3K-4K per year for 2-3 years.

The TL will always be a 35K car
The Accord a 20K car (even it being the nicest version)

Got to remeber that the TL-S was about 10K more than the Accord V6 coupe.
They are similar in the powertrain department although the coupe has a lower gear 3.55 and also accepts regular fuel compared to the TL premium requirement. However, at the years end the cost is only slightly higher with the TL as it sees slightly better fuel mileage. Interior dimensions are similar in the front, but the rear is a tight squeeze in the coupe with about 7" less hip room. Want a sporty 2 door with good performance get the coupe, need a family 4 door truckster get the TL.

umm. i used to have the 08 honda accord coupe i4 with HFP body kit i think the car looks nice and inside isnt bad but cant compare to the TL thats for sure. ummm roadnoise i hated it but it didnt bother me much becuz i would put my volume up a little. Overall i think the TL has better potential and interior is VERY nice compared to the Accord and the 08+ Accords dont have a lot of mods yet so you might want to think about that if you plan on modding.

oh yehh i forgot to comment about the premature brakes. Umm since the accord is used it MIGHT have been changed. when i had the car i got Honda to resurface and change new brake pads for the car for free but if you pass 25k miles than you will have to pay it all on your own or half depending if honda contacted you. ohh and theres a rear shelf rattle which is annoying as hell!!! i think the new 2010 models have the USB connector instead of the aux.

I noticed this yesterday when I started my long commutes again. Wind noise is very low in the TL at highway speeds - though it is negated by the XLR8 and PCD's. Felt like I was trying to break the sound barrier in my CL when I got up to 75-80.

I would say you can't go wrong with either or. It is really personal preference. I really like both the TL-S 6MT and the 08+ Accord Coupe 6MT. Drive both of them and see which one you prefer for the money. One of the biggest advantages IMO is that the TL-S is a 4 door and is more practical. A deciding factor for me would be price, condition and mileage. I would want to find a used one that was in the best condition, lowest mileage, best price and one owner. Good luck!

I believe the rear brake pad wear was limited to 4cyl and 6cyl auto. I haven't heard the issue being on the 6MT. Correct me if I am wrong.

Road noise is limited to 4cyl models. The 6cyl doesn't have the road noise issues. Even my 03 Accord V6 doesn't have any road noise. Even at 100MPH its very quiet.

I went through the same process as well. Until I test drove both (along with a G35 coupe, and a few other comparable cars), and realized that the TL-S wins, hands down. It's also noticeably quicker. I believe that the TL-S was underrated horsepower-wise to avoid competing with the RL...I'll have to find the source for that, but I distinctly remember reading that.

Anyways, go with the TL-S (I hope you are looking at 6MT )

Wishful thinking, but the cars are pretty close depending on the tester.
0-60 around 5.6
Qtr mile low 14’s.

Here's a dyno comparison of the TL-S vs. V6 Accord (both 6MT). 254whp is pretty impressive with the rated 286hp crank. I think there's a good chance that it's underrated to prevent competition with the flagship RL. Of course, there's no actual proof (that'd be impossible to obtain), but it's in the realm of possibility, no doubt.

The accord weighs about 250lbs less which negates the TL-S minimal power advantage. Such a great drivers race.

Hmm, possibly. I drove the new Accord V6 pretty thoroughly, multiple times, and the TL-S just feels much quicker. Of course, neither one of us are unbiased enough to really discuss it.

The TL-S outdoes the accord in almost every single way except for pricing!

TL-S has over the accord:
HID Headlights
3.5L V6
Upscale interior with Ambient Lighting
Brembo Brakes
6 Disk ELS sound system with 5.1 audio, Dolby Pro Logic II and also Active Noise Cancellation
Sport Suspension
Hands Free Link
HomeLink
Auto Dimming Mirror
Blue tinted Side Mirrors
Upgraded Sound deading/Trim
Sport Racing Pedals
and much much more!

The TL-S is so much more upscale and every single feature makes it worth the premium! The HID's by themselves seal the deal for me over an accord! If you do go with the accord you'll wish every single time that you got the TL or TL-S!

Why would you choose an Accord over the TL-S in the first place?

Simple easy victories for the TL-S.
Power
Luxury
Brand
More features.

The TL-S isn't even in the Accord's segment. Its higher, therefore its not comparable. Getting an Accord over the TL-S as a choice would be a downgrade of a choice.

Of course get the TL-S. I know I would if I had to choose between TL-S or Accord.

TL the new accord looks like crap unless your getting a coupe.

The TL has excellent HID, the accord doesn't. It has crappy ass halogen.

The TL holds it value far better then the accord. Like you said your TL cost more then a new accord? That should tell you something.

Not true. They are both similar as far as holding their value. To give you an idea...

MSRP 2008 Accord EX V6 Coupe w/navi 30,945
MSRP 2008 TL-S w/Navi - 38,225

KBB Value in good condition with 36,000 miles based on 12K a year
2008 Accord EX-L 6MT w/Navi 19,755
2008 Acura TL-S 6MT w/navi- 26,225

Accord has a difference of 11,190
TL-S has a difference of 12,000

Conclusion - The accord holds its value better than the TL-S. But barely.
