All the time. That plastic shield that hangs down on my car is very scuffed. It's just the nature of a car with a low ride and long front end. I find it easy to avoid if you go up or down a slope at an angle.

That shield is there to protect engine or suspension parts that could be damaged if they were to come into contact with the driveway, it is there to give you an audible warning.

Try exiting at a slight angle - instead of both rear wheels then both front wheels at the same time let the rear ones clear first then turn your wheel to whichever direction you have the most space w/o hitting an object and let the front wheels go down before one another, that may give you enough clearance..

oh and I think the shield also helps prevent excess water and debris from entering the engine compartment while driving

Welcome to the forum.

Everyone has probably scraped theirs at one time or another.

The shield actually deflects air up to the engine, because the TL is a bottom breather.

It is necessary for cooling the engine, so for anyone out there who may have damaged theirs or are thinking about removing it so it doesn't scrape, think again.

completely unrelated item but... Ron.. I had never thought of that - maybe that's why I had issues with my 240SX and engine heat =p (it was broken so I just took the entire shield off)

Maybe you should have considered the slope of your driveway before buying such a low-slung car

Don't even think about buying some exotic (like an NSX) or even a car with a large front air dam i.e. M3 until you get that driveway fixed (or move)

I know right? They forgot to consider my friends driveway too! the hell is wrong with Acura?!

Haha j/k but seriously, just go at an angle. It isn't that big of a deal. The only time mine gets scraped is when I go too far into a parking spot and when I go down a steep driveway without an angle.

Try backing in when parking in the driveway.

Scraping would be an issue for me if I drove forward and up into my driveway, but I always back in (straight driveway rather than circular-- can't afford a mansion with that type of driveway just yet... ), so my TL's deflector never scrapes.

I have a steep drive way and if I drive too fast to the drive way or leaving from it, I scrap the bottom so I learned to take it easy. The TL is low but not as low as some super cars like these " Supercars stop Paris" At least our cars wont grind a whole city into gridlock when we exit a carpark

Not my stock TL, at least no problems with speed bumps in SoCal roads, garages, etc.

haven't scraped any speed bumps and the only steep hill that gives me a problem is exiting my sister's driveway in her house in NJ...I can't do any sort of angle on the way out, the driveway is super narrow with huge rock walls on both sides...SUPER narrow, so I have to sustain minimal scrapage

I found just the opposite. I can easily go forward on my driveway with no scraping, but backing in causes lots of scraping for me unless I go at an angle.

That plastic piece is there to help direct air into the radiator. I have scraped mine lots of times. I just take my Dremel tool and grind down the scraped part until it looks like new again. I figure it'll stop scraping after a while if I keep grinding down the plastic...he he.

If you scrape on your own driveway, move. If you scrape going to the bank, don't go, or find a different bank. My other car is a "59 Austin Healey; now that is low, really low. You learn to go over almost anything at an angle; works almost every time.
