07 Switchblade Key Fob

For those of you who own one....how do you like using the key/remote?

Seems like it would stick out too far.. .just wondering.

Yeah it sticks out a bit much but girls dig it. It feels kind of fragile. I feel like if I knee it by accident, I could potentially snap it.

i like it, not so much as the switchblade style keys other cars have though. i like the fact that it's slim though, as i hate feeling like my keys are too bulky for my pockets.

better than having the fob dangle down rattling against the steering column or dangling on my knee. Plus that damn fob was getting all beat up. This one is a no brainer, at the very least, all you're doing is creating a spare key.

i really want one, thats for sure! it looks REAL clean. MUCH better than my separate beat-up looking fob. sent a few pm's out, waiting for some replies on a milled switchblade.

If FLBUSA is unable to machine one for you, then you can get them @ acura of escondido

The key fob programming instructions are in this thread and yes, it will remember the driver 1 settings. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89492

If you send FLBusa one of your original keys with the immobilizer chip in it, you won't need to have the dealer program the chip to the car, but if you use one of his keys or buy another one somewhere, then the dealer will have to program the chip to match your car.

So my question for anyone that has already done this is? So if I buy a key that is already machined off of e-bay and then i get it cut by a locksmith and then I follow the DIY instructions by Ron A. on how to program the new fob then this new switchblade key is ready to use? I will not have to take it to the dealer for anything? Also am I leaving out any steps? Thanks

There are two ways to program the key: either the locksmith can do it or going to an acura dealership. People have had successes both ways, so its just a matter of finding a dealership/locksmith who will cut and program the blank key for you.

Ya kno I went to 5-7 different locksmiths and acura dealerships and they all gave me the run-around about getting the key cut & programed. Don't pay them any mind, you will find a dealership/locksmith who will do it. Now when I go to the dealerships that wouldnt do it, they stress me about my key

Yod didn't read my entire post. Since you got the key off of ebay, you will have to take it to the dealer to get the immobilizer chip matched to your car. I don't think locksmiths can do this but I am not positive. If they can, they would need the special machine so probably not all locksmiths can do it.

A newbie question regarding the keyfobs. I test drove an '07 TL today with the new folding key and it has the feature where you can press unlock twice to open all the windows and sunroof. Do older 3G TL's have this feature even though they have the older keyfob remote? Just curious, I'm looking to save some $$ by finding a good deal on an 04 or 05 TL.

Thanks!

yes, all 3gs have the ability to open all windows and sunroof when you press unlock twice and hold it.

Thanks leedogg, this car has so many great features, especially for an 04! Compared to a 3 series or G35 from a couple years ago it's the most complete (and probably most reliable) car.

I bought a milled key on Ebay from Acura of Escondio. Just had the key cut and remote programmed by Thomas Acura for $115 today.

Everything works GREAT!!!!!! (Even the "old" remote still works.)

Dealers use the car VIN # to program the remote. All dealers should be able to cut the keys and do the programming.

The $115 is for mainly programming the remote.

Wow, Thomas Acura charged you double than I paid them last month. I got the S/B key from FLBUSA and got it cut and programmed the chip at Tomas Acura. Initially they quoted $115. I told them that Weir Canyon will cut and program the key for $55. I asked the service manager if they can price match it for me rather than I have to drive another 20 miles. And they did lowered the price for $57.50.

I have a 2007, so it came with the SB Key. I like it better than my old Honda key because I am not putting holes in my pocket.

However, I wonder why Acura doesn't use a keyless system like Nissan/Infiniti. Heck, you even get a keyless setup on the Altima. It is the one thing missing from my TL.

err, you do realize that the one I posted, for $91 is a key milled (says MACHINED) for 2004-2006, whereas the link you provided was the standard 2007 laser blank? In other words, they charged about $33 to mill it for us. You're still going to have to send yours to FLBusa to get it machined.

See differences:

btw, once its been machined, any dealer or locksmith with an acura key programmer, can cut and reprogram them for you. A lot of places refuse and say its not possible because they still think you have an 07 laser blank.

I prefer it to a separate key and fob, I never even notice it's there when driving, so it certainly doesn't stick out too far.

However, (there's always a "however", isn't there?) I'm not so sure that I wouldn't rather have a key like my wife's '07 Accord. It just has the "fob" buttons in a slightly oversized key head.

The one think I don't like about the switchblade is that the button to open it protrudes so far that it frequently opens in my pocket.

errr....in which case, it would be just like your wife's accord key?
