I was right there on the line when I got the TL, had my eye on a G35 coupe. The thing that pushed me over was RWD. I didn't feel like having the coupe pulled out of a ditch after my wife drove it in the first snow. That G37 might change my mind though. (in light of current "design" directions that Acura has decided to go lately)

I think that the G35 is a better car dynamically, handles better and is a little faster... However, for my money, i felt that the interior on the G was a little cheap looking and the Nav system SUCKS. The system locks you out from entering information once the car starts moving... If I have to be stopped to input info, might as well pull over and get out a map! The G also gets much worse mileage in the real world. The TL is classy inside and feels much better quality wise to me. When new the TL was about 5-6K cheaper when they were comparably equipped, dont know about when used.. Just my opinion, also look into insurance differences, if that matters.
Hope that helps

The only thing I liked about the early G35's was the exhaust note.. other than that.. not much.

Yeah I already had an 05 TL that just got totaled by some idiot. So now im looking at cars again, trying to decide what I like. I think i'm just going to sit in the coupe and drive it and see how I like it.

This is my first post, but I have been looking at this forum 4 about a year now. Some people have positive and insightful things to say but others just talk to talk. I have an 05 tl and its a great car. The g35 is also good. But to some of u to say the coup cant carry passengers is less reliable and looks bad is not accurate. Look at the problem and fixes in this section and u will find a multitude of things wrong with aura. I test drove a g35 and I liked it better than the tl. In the end it came down to price, and to stick with my budget.
To the op, test drive both cars

the car might be mechanically better than the TL but can you enjoy your car with crappy interior? you see the inside of the car the most. like i said, it looks like my dad's 1996 nissan maxima on the inside and i disliked the driving position. it felt funny.

I test drove 06 G35 couple 6MT before I made my mind to get TL.
I thought G35 was going to be lil more sporty. The couple was too heavy and the motor didn't feel that crisp. Actually, TL felt sportier than G35 coupe. I haven't regreted not getting G35 coupe so far.
Well, you should test drive both and see what you like.

Why is someone cross-shopping a coupe and a sedan? Either you need the practicality of a 4 door sedan, or you need the sportiness of a 2 door sports car. What next, which car should I get, a Ford F-650 or a Ferrari Enzo?

both ways, you'll be running out of gas before you get to the end of the street

Yea the G35 is faster and RWD blah blah blah, but the TL has potential and its four door (a plus for me). Plus you can't mess with those body lines baby, pure secks!!
NM, I just read your post correctly (damn beers cloud your judgement), the "4" threw me off, haha!! I was like 4 years, damn!!

If you're a bachelor, get the coupe. It's a hell of a lot of fun. I know cuz I owned an 07 G35 coupe 6MT, the last model year of that particular coupe, and the top of the line iteration. 293hp, short-throw 6MT, sport suspension, VSLD, 19in RAYS forged alloy wheels, etc.
The only reason I got rid of it was because I got married and needed a sedan that my wife could drive (she don't drive stick).
If I hadn't gotten hitched, I would not have gotten rid of the G. That car was completely trouble-free for the two years I had it, and sorry to say this but Infiniti service is vastly superior to Acura service (you don't have to beg them to fix things that are under warranty. Why? Cuz nothing ever breaks! And you don't have to have to beg them for a goddamn loaner car. Infiniti will practically shove you into an FX or G loaner without you even asking for it. And they don't expect you to fill up the tank when you bring it back. They could care less.)
That being said, I wouldn't kick my 08 TL-S out of bed. It has a much smoother engine, is far quietier (which, in my old age, is a good thing), has vastly superior seats (the sport seats in the G coupe are horrifically uncomfortable. The designer who decided to wedge the hard plastic seat controls under the right leg bolster should commit seppuku.), and has comparable power and acceleration. The G did have notably better handling and steering, however. But overall, the TL-S is a superior, more refined car. A hell of a lot of fun, but easy to live with on a daily basis.
The G35 coupe 6MT is a weekend car. If you plan to use it as a daily driver, I suggest the 5AT with manual mode and downshift rev-matching, which I've driven and has a much more comfortable ride but with minimal sacrifice of performance.

I really like the TL.. the G35 coupe looks good but feels relatively cheap. The G35S on the other hand was very nice..

Id rather a TL. Only because when i see a G coupe, it reminds me of spoiled rich kids who got a G for their high school graduation present. Not many kids drove a TL.
If class is what you're looking for, I think a TL is better.

TL's are for old people... =)
That's because a TL isn't as cool! When I was shopping for a car, the G35 was at the top of my list. Then it was BMW, Lexus and Volvo. I didn't even consider Acura. But then when I found my 6MT TL, I instantly developed a strong liking for it. Although, I wish I had known about the 3rd gear issue before I bought it. Plus I find that the TL feels a bit low on torque compared to the Volvo S80 that I had. The other day, I tried to accelerate in 2nd gear on the highway and was extremely underwhelmed. But I'm glad I chose the TL over the G35 because the TL is a larger car. I'm a family guy now. But someday I'll have to get a Camaro. After experiencing the torque of the TL's small displacement, high horsepower engine, I finally see why people like big V8's. Turbo Volvos are great too.

I say go with the TL if you're going for a more luxury, go g35 if you're into the more sportier type of luxury.
I had a choice between the tl-s or g35 and I took the tls because of how common the g35 was.
