05 tl vs. 01 tl-p
The other night i was on my way home from a party and when I stopped at a red light and 05 tl pulled up next to me. We both knew we were goin to race and when it hit green i floored it and i was a car lengths ahead of him for the whole time, until the next red light. After the first one we pulled up to another light, with the exact same outcome. I haven't done anything to my stock 01 tl-p and i thought he would for sure beat me, but i beat him both times.

Now now fellas... Have any of you had 5AT 3G TL loaners? I have, and I didn't find it to be that impressive off-the-line. The torque seems to be less available down low, and the DBW is an odd sensation to it. Having driven both extensively, I'd say that a stoplight-to-stoplight race between a stock 5AT 2G TL-P and a stock 5AT 3G TL would be close. The TL-P seems to pull harder off the line due to the DBW and the higher revs it needs.
On the highway, a 3G TL would destroy a 2G TL-P. But stoplight-to-stoplight, I think his story is at least possible, if not probable. I wouldn't even take a 5AT 3G, I'd have to have the 6MT.

03 coupe is definitely right; my friends integ running 14.6 at CMI killed an 05 TL on the freeway like nothing. the tls torque on the low end isn't much, i do think the 2nd gens has better low end torque as well.

Well the TL-S makes peak torque starting at 3500rpm and lasting through 5000rpm. The new TL doesn't make peak torque until 5000rpm, significantly later. Peak torque on the TL-P was 4700rpm, but I have a feeling (based on butt-dyno only) that the TL-P can take off faster than the new TL for two reasons: more instant torque, and no delay from drive-by-wire. There are also other factors. The new TL is 100lbs heavier unladen than the 01 TL-P, and there are other variables - passengers, weight of passengers, possible cargo, amount of gas in the tanks, etc.
The 3G 5AT TL doesn't impress me much. But the 6MT TL is

I have an 04 TL auto and a modded 02 TL-S. When I first got my 04 TL, I was a bit dissapointed in the power. But after 12,000 miles (and a good break in ), my 04 has REALLY opened up. The J32A3 took a very long time to break in, much more so that it took me to break in my J32A2. The J32A2 is more torquey down low, but the J32A3 is definitely torquier in the high rpms.
As far as a TL-P beating a 3rd gen, it should not happen. A broken-in 3rd gen auto is a driver's race with a TL-S off the line. It's just like saying your TL-P beat a TL-S.

how was the other guy not trying......if blackedouttl says he floored it and the 3g stayed a car length behind it...do you think he hit the gas hard?

Let's not forget that anything is possible on the streets.
On top of that, the loaner 3G I had was blah at best. I realize loaner cars lead a tough life but it was just downright disappointing. Of course, I'm used to my modified TL-S and my brother's modified '05 6-speed.
So based on my experience, I wouldn't be surprised if the TL-P actually beat the 3G. Who knows, maybe the 3G had the VSA kick in and kill power. Maybe he turned it off but spun off the line a bit. Maybe the 3G just isn't all that fast after all (in stock auto form).
P.S. Good kill.
