05 TL HID Spec?
All vehicles equipped with HID lighting from the factory are 4100k. Some people rate it at 4300k but there is no difference.
Anything you see on ebay or anywhere else that says "8000k" or similar, is BS. They are just coated bulbs that give off a different color, and anything above 4100k reduces light output. The color in the cutoff and "flicker" is all from the design of the projector and cutoff shield within it.

I've had stock bulbs obviously, aftermarket PIAA bulbs, Nokya Bulbs, 8,000 watt blue kits, and a 12,000 blue kit.
PIAA lights (Never buy PIAA! .. they burn too fast)
8,000 watt bulbs in back. and 6000 watt bulbs in the 2nd Gen TL closer to the camera.
12,000 watt headlights. The ones I loved the most. You know when HID's turn on and they are really blue for like the first 10 seconds? These are like that 24-7. They are even crucially bright in the day time, in the day when it's raining, ANYTIME. I've had cops mug me a lot, but they would never pull over for the lights alone. Also, they stand out of any car on the highway.
One word of advice. when you make your car look good for attention from your car buddys, etc. .... remember .... attention is attention and the cops will pay attention to things like bright a$$ blue headlights!

Was it worth the upgrade? Did you have to get a new ballast? Or was it just a bulb change.

Stock 4100k.
The higher the kelvin the lower the lumens. 6000k is the best combination of color and lumens. Anything past 6000k is when light output drops fast and, IMO, past 6000k is a waste of money. I've never thought blue headlights looked "cool", I think they look stupid and
. The crisp white light of stock HIDs, and their superior output, suit me fine.

6000k is the best color combination to use, 8000k are too blue and entice PoPo to pull you over for your hids being deem emergency lights.
