04TL - dead battery at 45K miles
Just got new battery since original one died at around 45K miles. Seems like original one made by Honda not as good. Anybody else got this issue?

The OEM battery lasts about 2 years, give or take.

Totally normal. There are many other threads that have popped up in the last few months about the issue.

I replaced mine last month in my 04 TL at 19K miles. Just wore out over time I guess. I noticed it was having trouble startingwhen I was out of town....drove it home and a couple hrs after I got home I had to go to the store and it wouldn't start. battery=dead. I replaced it with an Interstate. My father owned a couple service garages and thats all he ever uses/reccommends.

that sounds about normal. I make it a habit to replace the battery every two years, just to be sure.
the good thing when I bought my TL the dealer gave me a voucher to just bring the car back when its having battery issues and they will replace it for free. (within the warranty period)

my batter died downtown nyc a few weeks ago...i parked my car to go into some sushi place and not even 5 min later my car would not start up. it was a big pain in the ass. i replaced it with otima redtop. had my car for about 2 yrs as well.

The battery scam
In Florida, batteries don't last more than three years. Any batteries. I still have the original in my 04 TL and no problems but I know it's coming.
CR just recently tested batteries. Wal-Mart's house brand did exceptionally well in Acura TL (24).
I once bought a 72 month battery at K-Mart for $72. If failed after 3 years. I took it back and complained. The mechanic said not to worry, they would prorate a new one. They did and gave me a new 72 month battery for $36. I said, "Why did it fail if it is a 72 month battery?"
He laughed. "All batteries die after three years. You didn't buy a 72 month battery. You bought a 72 month guarantee. It's basically the same as the 36 month battery with a different case ($36)."
"Why do you do that, then, if you know you're going to have to replace it?"
"Don't you get it?" he said. "You came back here for the second battery and we got the sale. If you had a 36 month battery, you might have gone somewhere else for a replacement. But, because of the "guarantee", you came back to us. No matter what you do or buy, a battery is going to cost you between $1 and $1.50 per month of use. They're cheap. It's the same with mileage guarantees on tires."

Strange... I guess I've had good luck with batteries.
I had a Delco in all my previous GM's and never had an issue. They all lasted about 4 to 5 years. My wife's old Exploder, on the other hand, had two battery issues with the Motorcrafts they had in them. The original lasted 1 1/2 years (roughly 17K miles), and the second didn't even make a full calendar year.
I had the dealer replace the battery in the TL before I bought it (I bought a used 05). Hopefully all works out.

That is extra waist of $. Even on my former Russian Lada (Cheapest car brand in Eastern Europe I drove 15 years ago) buttery last 5-8 years. Two years must be nothing for brand like Honda. Shame to Honda!!!

My battery just died at 26K. I was OK until the Acura dealer said it would cost me over $70 to replace it! Apparently the battery is one of those things that is not covered by the bumper-to-bumper 4yr/50K warranty. If they know it is a problem, why not just cover it? Very annoying...

Mine died at 26K miles ... (about 30 months from date of purchase).
Acura dealer wanted $115 to replace the battery with a new one ...
Got a new battery from Sams club for $48 installed .... dang !

What type of battery does the dealer install if you go in for a replacement during the warranty period? My OE one was leaking so they replaced it with a different battery - still Honda-branded, but not the same as the original.

Lived in Florida all my life and the longest I've had a battery survive is three years. The heat takes its toll. I continue to buy Interstate after my OEM tanks. They even don't last much longer. Such is life.

just got lucky with my dead battery
even though i went out a bought one from a parts store, acura is going to refund the money under warranty since i still had 1 month left on the 2 years that they cover the battery for

Battery replaced free of charge by dealer
My battery died completely at 29K miles, 2yr7months of service. It was out of warranteed, but the dealer took care of it free of charge! And the new one has a 4 years warrantee on it.
I think 2+ yr is way too short. Batteries had lasted at least 5 yrs for all my other cars.

One of the many reasons for modern batteries having a shorter life than old school vehicles
is because of
A- Electronics-fuel injection-Stereo-Lights etc pull huge drain from battery
B- Heat- engine compartments are now a tight fit for every part. Just look at the location of the battery and open your hood after a few hour drive sometime- just parking in the sun super heats the battery!
C- Vibration- vibration kills batteries and the roads are worse now than ever, and with tightly sprung cars- it just makes it worse.
The Optima seems to be the current rage and in the red top- deep cycle style- made for RVs and boats, you can pull many amps and not hurt the batt and it charges right back up no prob.
Don't br surprised when tailights burn out in the winter too, you use the lights more- they wear out! Science

At least the battery in the TL is maintenence free. The battery in my G35 is the old-school kind where you have to add distilled water to it every once in a while.... Oh well... Battery still lasted longer than the one in our TL....
