04 tl automatic what does the L represent?

My car didnt come with a car manual so I was wondering what does the L represent under the D in the automatic shifter. In my other cars it was a S and it drove more sporty?

L stands for "low" gear. Put the gear shifter there and the car will stay in 1st gear.

Lightning Mode. How could you buy a TL and not try Lightning Mode?

The '04-'06 5A will shift automatically from 1st to 2nd gear, even in Low. However, selecting "L" will not permit a shift to 3d gear or higher.

From the 2008 Owner's Manual...

Low (L) - When you move the shift lever to this position, the transmission shifts to the lowest gear that can be selected without exceeding the engine redline. At normal speeds, it selects third gear. As the vehicle slows, it selects second gear at about 56 mph (90 km/h), and first gear at about 29 mph (47 km/h). Accelerating in first gear, the transmission upshifts to second gear at about 37 mph (59 km/h). You must move the shift lever to D for the transmission to upshift to third gear. On Type S, at closed throttle, it selects second gear at about 61 mph (98 km/h), and first gear at about 37 mph (59 km/h).

it's better just to use the Sport Shift mode by bumping it over to the left and using the paddles or the shifter

I thought it was established that just flat footing it in D was quicker 1/4 times...
