'04 Brake Issue - Master Cylinder

So I had my '04 TL auto in for some routine service (oil, tire rotation, etc) the other day and got a call from the service dept asking me if I noticed the brake feeling a little heavy. I said I didn't notice anything but apparently the mechanic who roadtests a lot of these thought it felt weird. Turns out, the master cylinder was bad and needed to be replaced.

Anyone heard of this with the '04? I am wondering if they really felt something (are they really that good?) or are they aware of something and not saying anything yet.

At any rate, sounds like a good thing. Better than being wrapped around a tree!

Kudos to your service department for the catch. Who were they? (My wife's family lives in Phoenixville and we will be in that area Thansgiving week. It's always good to know that an unfamiliar dealer can be trusted if there is the need).

West Chester Acura. Yes I was really happy with the fact that they took the initiative to check it out. It seemed so amazing that I was wondering if it was in fact a pre-recall issue but it could just be good service...

Could also be that the service dept was slow and needed to create some business. They know that the only way they won't meet resistance is if the car is under warranty so that the owner doesn't have to pay.

Thanks for the up on your dealer. I actually pass right by it as I use the Concord Pike/202 exit off of 95 coming and going. Regarding captain's post, it could be true but I'd like to think that there really was a problem with your master. Did you notice much of a difference in pedal feel after?

A little but that could be because they put in a new part. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They're not slow by any stretch (2nd generation TL had a tranny recall and they are BOOKED!!!)

I have never heard anything associated with a bad master cylinder as making the brakes feel "heavy", whatever that means. Bad MC's almost always result in loss of pedal hardness - my BS-ometer is scoring 99 on this one.

A simple search would reveal that this is not at all a common problem, if one existed at all - are people looking for TL conspiracies here? Seems so sometimes.
