04-06 Did You Upgrade to Switchblade??

I've had my switchblade for a month tomorrow. I find myself fumbling with it many times. I have to keep looking at it to know which button I'm pushing. I tried to put the key in the ignition a few times without open the key. And I scraped my finger a couple times as well trying to close it. Thankfully it isn't a knife.

I'm pretty good with gadgets and it will take a little more time to get use to it.

Just wondering if others are fumbling with it as well?

I will occasionally hit unlock instead of lock, and vice versa. That is the only thing I liked about my original fob over the switchblade, the different sizes and placement of lock/unlock buttons.

Having my past 4 cars as Audi's before buying my Acura... I saw it as more of a novelty, and didn't see it worth the expense just for a key.

nope. Need to look to make sure i'm hitting lock and not unlock, but i'm sure i'll get it over time. I have a keypad on my house door, therefor this is the only key in my pocket. My only problem is that it opens inside my pocket from time to time. Love it.

Maybe you are not so good with gadgets as you think you are...

Sometimes I have to look at it to unlock/lock, but usually I feel the "face":

"left eye" - unlock
"right eye" - lock
"nose" - trunk release
"mouth" - panic button

That's how I'm thinking for this, but without the key sticking out. It's upside down sometimes.

Stop playing pocket pool, j/k I'd like to only have the fob. I do like how this thing is a smaller footprint than before.

I had an extra Ben sitting around so the money was no problem.

I love my switchblade. Funny thing though. Because mine doesn't fit in my glove (everywhere else perfect but there) I have one of the black keys on my ring with the switchblade. So because of that, I hardly ever open the key part. LOL! I do on occassion. I guess my spring will last longer huh? As for the mix-up with the buttons, I am a Jedi master! I may wind up taking the key off since there is never a need to lock the glove unless I drop it for service. Yeah, why the hell do I have it on there? Dammit! It's coming off now! Thanks for helping me thru that guys!

I think it will fit after it wears down a bit. Others jammed it in for a little force wearing.

Yep, if you jam it into the glove, and literally YANK it out like 2-3 times (using more brut force the you probably would want to)..

They key will start to work in the glove

It might work, others did that. I wouldnt do that. I'd let it wear down some through normal usage then try it.

How about shaving your key a bit using utility knife? You don't need to be master engraver for that.

I've milled one myself. Thou, using CNC milling machine, not utility knife. Works perfectly. Expect them at eBay soon.

^^Ya think? LOL! I'm not doing this either! I'll just use it more and maybe it will eventually wear down. It ain't that deep for me to jam it or mess with Chris and FLBusa's work of art!

Yes, it is to hard if you try to cut it, but not if you scrape it. It is easy to try that. Way easier than to wait about hundred years for it to wear down.

I had some trouble indentifying the right buttons for a week or two. Now it's second nature - I love it. Certainly took more time/effort/money than any other replacement key I've bought, but I like toys, so that justified it.

I've had my switchblade for about 7 weeks and I still have to check the buttons I'm pushing. And I've had the key open in my pocket a few times too. But overall, I like it over the stock key.

I like my Switchblade a lot. What I like even better is I found out you can open the car door through a cell phone. I called my wife cell phone to cell phone, pretending that I locked myself out of the car. She continually pushes the unlock button on her remote (to my 2006 Acura TL) through the cell phone (she is on the other side of town at the time). I hold my cell phone about a foot or so away at the driver's side window and I swear she opened my car door.

We have done this 5 different times now showing others how it works. Very cool! Never have to worry about locking myself out or calling AAA or Pop-a-lock ever again.

No fumbling or scraping here. After I shut & lock the doors, I hold the key's "close" button while I flip the key closed against my hip. Release the button, drop key in purse, done.

My only complaint is that the 'blade occasionaly opens unexpectedly in my purse. Too much crap in there I guess.

Yeah, if I have the key in my gym bag or in my pocket, it might bump up against something and open. I guess I can live with that though.

Hey, that key cell phone thing I did on my 92 Legend! It worked! I couldn't do it on my 03 TL-S. Dunno why...

The two times I did it, somebody called me a dumbass. I was the only one in the car.

I don't drive my car everyday. I think since I got the switchblade, I've driven maybe 500 miles. I'm getting the hang of it. It just different.

i hear a lot of you are saying you confuse the lock and unlock buttons. i have an 07 so it might be different. but.......... on the 07 key the lock button face is kinda "smushed" so it feels different then the lock one. The lock button's surface is totally rounded.

I thought that all of the 04-06 upgrades would have the same thing but............. i guess its not the case

The article says it might be possible for keys that dont use the RKE system. Perhaps ours use another system that works.
