'04-'05 Transmission Problems?

Does anyone know what changes, if any, our new transmission has over the 2nd gen? I had to get rid of my 99 TL with 90,000 miles because i started to experience beginning signs of transmission failure, even though it had 10,000 left on extended warranty and dealership refused to do anything.

Early transmissions had to have the 2nd gear jet kit replaced. Otherwise, the tranny appears new to the best of our knowledge.

More is in the Garage, which is at the top of the forum page.

I would bet that all 04 and 05 models have the oil jet which was done on my 01 S model last year as well. If you were not recalled, it was probably installed before leaving the factory.

As for the 2G vs 3G who knows.. but as mentioned before the 2G seemed to shift more aggressively and the 3G does not make the low end torque the 2G had. I recall someone mentioning what was redesigned but cannot recall exactly what might have changed.

What low end torque? Honda's are not known for their low end torque, just like they are not known for their 8 cyclinders. I think my 3G has more low end torgue than my 2G

I guess mickey3c prolly meant 3G's ECU mapping isn't as aggressive as 2G has. I'm not sure if the new ECU upgrade could help. But a few ppl getting the particular ECU upgrade now "feel" their cars are running faster and more powerful, especially after TSB 04-016 flash.

What's the ECU upgrade? And how you do upgrade?

I'm not saying it will absolutely boost your power. However, this TSB surprisedly has a few members pondering what happens to their cars. Bascially dealers won't refresh your ECU if you don't have problems/codes that TSB has listed. And, I'm wondering if Acura dealers have the different versions of ECU firmware/software upgrade or they only have one version.

Edited: I did get the ECU firmware updated in Dec. 2003 due to MIL On issue. But I never feel my car accelerate better or what. Since a few guidelines or TSBs here saying how to fix MIL on issues, and some people do get other sensors replaced in additional to refresh ECU firmware, results may be different. So, based on feedbacks from those with 04-016, they seem to feel more than other members would get...
