03 Anthracite vs. 04 Anthracite
03 Anthracite vs. 04 Anthracite
Anyone notice that Anthracite is just not the same?
I was parked near an 03 Anthracite TL the other day and remembered the wow factor that color has, very metallicy, really sticks out... then I looked at my 04 Anthracite and it seemed more dull and not as metallic... anyone else notice this?

I think this is nothing more than the syndrome known as "The Anthracite is always shinier on the other side." You've had your car a while now. The romance is still there, but maybe not quite as intensely as before. You lust elsewhere. The neighbor's wife starts to look good, his Anthracite starts to look more metallic. Don't fret, it's normal. Normal operation of the vehicle, according to Acura. Happy driving.

You know, I noticed that too. It just seems duller or flatter this year. I wonder if the lack of chrome around the windows and grill makes the metallic effect stand out less, or if it is the change in body style? I have noticed this with other 04 colours too.

Not Me
My Anthracite is so shiney and metallic I get people asking me what speciality shop I got my car painted. I even get those questions from professional car wash guys. Most people think I have 'candy paint'. I will admit that on clouldy days it doesn't 'sparkle' as much. But when the suns out, pull out the shades!!

For being so "unpopular" car manufacturers sure sell a lot of white cars... :-)
I have to admit though, I would have never thought I would have picked a WDP TL,, but I did.. All of my previous cars were either red, blue, or silver.. Looking at all of the TL's on lot, the WDP just really stood out in my eyes/mind. Overall though, I tend to agree with catsailr.. I actually liked all of the TL colors....
As for the colors/paint on the concept cars,,,, Most are painted using a completely different process and paint than the factory automated procedure.. Hence the more custom looking finish..
All the colors are pretty decent on the TL except for the gold and the red. the gold is the worst color IMO. The red is pretty bad too. I saw a red one the other day with body side molding and the gold emblems. I was thinking, "man, how could that car get any uglier?" Then, I saw it had a wing spoiler as well! The blue isn't bad but that color doesn't do much for me. I see the most black ones followed by anthracite.
I'm glad to see that others are finding "issues" with their anthracite gray. In my opinion, this is (by far) the classiest color for the TL, as it really shows off the car's lines/curves. However, since the day I purchased the car, I've thought that the gray is cloudy. An even more accurate description would be "splotchy". If you look closely at the hood, the color is not consistent. Instead it is very "splotchy" and this is a bit disconcerting to me. That is really my only true gripe about the car.
Try different waxes, I have an anthracite 03 CLS.
Sealants (most common 'wax' type these days) tend to make my car very shiny and reflective but not very deep color and less flaky. Carnauba waxes (real, natural wax) tends to make the color deeper and the flakes pop out a little more. I usually do a sealant (Mequirs) and then top it with a Carnauba. I'm using the Carnauba wax that Harley-Davidson sells, PS100 or something.
Before waxing, first get the paint as clean as possible, and then use claybar to remove minute residues that soap doesn't get.

ZAINO baby!!! If you're got Anthracite, Zaino will definately make it look more metallic, darker in color, and deeper in shine. When I got my '04TL, I was very disappointed with the look of the paint. It looked dull, had no depth, and actually looked like a cheap paint job. I had NBP previously and I thought I made a big mistake getting Anthracite. Then I found Zaino. After the first coat, it looked slightly better, but I still wasn't happy. After 3 coats, the paint suddenly popped out!! Now, people stop me and ask where I had my car painted because it doesn't look like a factory paint job. It has a show car appearance, the metallic just pops out at you, and it just plain looks awesome. I've had it sitting at the dealership next to a new "06TL, and there was no contest. Several people around the lot were standing next to both cars making comments about the paint on my car...asking if it were a custom paint job. It's that good guys...but you have to layer the Zaino, let it cure between coats, then use the new Z-8 spray after each wash, or after using a California Duster to keep the shine. I hardly ever wash my car, the finish is so slippery, any dust will just brush right off using the duster, then I use the spray to restore the slippery feel so dust won't stick. If it rains, wash the car, then after drying, use the Z-8 spray.
