02' TL vs. CLK350

I'm new here and haven't posted pics yet cos' my car has been dirty from snow. Anyhow just bought a 2002 TL about three weeks ago and have gotten used to the car fairly well now. So the story goes like this. I was driving on the PA turnpike and i guess I must've merged kinda quick or something, because as soon as I did this guy and his wife (perhaps girlfriend or whatever) in a Mercedes CLK350 cut behind me from the right over to where i am in the left and follow me real close as I'm picking up speed to about 80mph. Well here's where the fun begins. I noticed how close he was staying behind me and about 2miles down the road it opens up to three lanes. As soon the new left lane opened I jumped on it to see what he'd do. He pushed it with me all the way to about 110mph for about maybe 3/4 of a mile until we has to start cutting throught traffic. Well lets just say that we held it neck in neck for close to 11 miles before I was able to actually show this guy who was boss. when I finally started to walk on him I really pulled away and took my new baby up past 120. I think he might've got stuck behind some cars though cos' I didn't see him again for almost a minute afterwards.

THEN>>>

As I was just sitting in the middle going with the flow of traffic waiting for him to catch up he comes past me again on the left still going fast. i just waved cos' my exit was coming up soon, him and his wifey waved back with sort of an astonished look on there faces but kept going by real fast, then like a not even a second I watched a chrysler 300 M fly by in the same lane as him. Appearantly he found someone else to join in. (He probally felt real embarrased cos' he had a good 45hp over me. and decided to strike up another race to redeem himself, I'm thinking.)

I don't usually road race and I'm not sure if it was a fair one cos I had a slight lead from the get go, but it was cool to see that my new car was able to hang with a CLK350. My old car (a 94 Dodge spirit) would of never had a chance and was never stable past 100mph. This car I'm reall impressed with, it was incredibly stable and has some amazing acceleration between 70 and 120mph. AND I"m also completely stock as of right now.

Sorry for the lengthiness ppl, just had to rant a little bit. Be safe not stupid if you decide to play in traffic. Best bet just do it at night long after rush hour. I had to feel it out though... https://acurazine.com/forums/misc.ph...=0&forumid=24#
Thumbs Up

Unfortunetly I don't have the type S. I bought it off my grandparents for cheap with only 38k on it.

Coming soon as I can get my car washed. It's just a stock TL (NGM w/tan interior).
Future mods will most likely be CAI, axle-back, lowering springs and coilovers, sways, slotted rotors, beefier pads, ect. Nothing over the top though. I'm looking into a few body kits as well, but haven't decided yet.

Just wondering..is the OP talking about the new ones or the old ones..because I thought the new ones are faster now?...

I know the old models of the CLKs are not that fast as they are said to be...they're heavy as hell.

This is an internet forum where everything can happen by word of mouth.

The truth is never what it claims. The CLK350 will crush a TL-P.

You are talking over 45HP difference with over 30lb-ft torque advantage at much lower RPM. Not to mention that the 7G-tronic automatic ratio are much tighter than TL-P.

The truth is that I smoked this guy through traffic. Not by word of mouth....I already stated the hp and torque difference and I'm sure if most of the race was open straightaway I might have lost. But it wasn't...Anyhow it did happen and I'm posting about it only because I wanted to give praise to my new wheels, which I'm very happy with. Maybe the guy wasn't pushing it as hard as I was, who knows? At any rate it was fun to finally be at speed in a car that can remain stable. I've smoked rich guys driving BMW's in my 94 Dodge spirit on the turnpike b4.

Here are the pics. Car is still dirty from snow and pics are taken from camera phone. Just another stock TL...some modest mods await in the spring.

That's what I'm sayin'! I get no gratification from making stuff up and then posting it on-line. I learned how to drive from my father (who mostly drag raced muscle cars) and I only street race every now and then. For me, beating this guy was a total blast!

Anything could happen in a street run. The most important (and intelligent) part is to know whether or not one has beaten the car or the driver.

Just keep it sane out there.
