My friend got the new Car and Driver or Motortrend (i dont remember which) and it said the 2004 TL's 0-60 is only 6.0 seconds..I thought it would be faster..oh well

I believe C&D estimated that time. The 2004 TL six speed should be as fast as the 3.2 CL-S six-speed. The fastest time I have seen in a mag for that car is 0-60 in 5.7?

 

Why would you expect it to be faster, all of these cars TLS-CLS/G35/Maxima 02-04 the automatics have closed the gap on the manual, back in the day it was a clear avantage not so much anymore. Look at the G35 Sedan 6spd the auto was tested at 6.2 at C/D and the manual in the current issue is 5.9. 6 is good for the manual I expect the auto to be on par with the current TLS with the extra weight.

 

The Accord V6 6 speed got 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, it'll be tough to beat that with any FWD platform, but I'm sure the TL has a chance, especially with proper tires.

 

One thing that I always remeber when comparing performance numbers is that unless two cars are tested by the same person on the same track at the same time (same day) then the numbers dont really mean that much. Why do you think that 5 different magazines come out with 5 different numbers for the same car. All I am saying is dont bet your money on every figure you read.

 

I agree with the post above. Also, the C&D figure was an ESTIMATE.

 

I think you guys have read too many M5, S6, and Mercedes AMG reviews. Remember, this is an upscale sedan but not an all-out sports car. Anything under 8 seconds is considered good, under 7 seconds is very good, 6 seconds is close to state of the art. There must be at least .3 seconds difference in times before the average person will even suspect there is any difference at all. So worrying about tenths is silly.

 

Bingo. 270 hp is PLENTY for 95% of TL buyers.

 

Any car, w/ a manual, within a couple of tenths of a second away from the 01-03 TL-s would need a "professional" run to HANG.... right?

What is the TL-s running 0-60? 6.2 and that's STOCK! Whatever it is.... we're "automatically" running that time, RIGHT!?


Wondering.... is a tenth of a second about half a car length or what? How much extra HP would be needed to get a tenth of a second?

 

You would need to have another 50 hp, lower drag coefficient, stickier tires and RWD to get better times of any significance. I think FWD 0 - 60 times have run their course.

 

Elevation (sea level) & temperatur are BIG factors.. Especially for turbo cars...
