$$$ Clear Bras $$$

Ok, so I want to get a clear bra asap and I did some browsing online and found some interesting prices. Can you tell me if the one site is ripping people off? I mean, you can save almost 60% at the one site. Or is that one using a cheeper film? What gives? who would you go with? thanks guys.

Just had my 2006 TL done by an xpel authorized installer for $750. He did a great job. There are different kits, some cover entire front bumber, while others only partially cover. Then there are different materials. Whover, you go with I would make sure its is 3M product, and they are doing entire front bumber. I went with the extended hood coverage, as well

Does anyone know of an excellent clear bra installer in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area?

lots of issues with ppf. There are different types - most notably 3m (durable & longer lasting) vs Venture Shield (reports of early yellow/poor durability, but clearer than 3m). As well as older versions of 3m vs a newer clearer version.

Wow, huge price differences from one to the next. Doesn't look easy to install either. $750 is very expensive IMO... I had the front clip re-sprayed on my '03 TL and it was half the cost of the clear bra installed according to the response from euton_l.

Doesn't make much sense.

Since this covers your car, or rather is a coat ontop of the paint. I assume waxing/clay/cleaning this doesn't help. So the car should be as shiny/clean as possible before hand, and then just regular wash to clean the area covered?

I read some where that some are fully functional... you can wash, wax, even buff if I remember correctly.

Yeah.....3M and Expel are reputable for there clear bra. They are durable and there's no discoloration in the film. I had mine done 2yrs ago and the going price was $650, know its getting popular prices are around $700-$750. Spend your money once and do it right the first time.

That applies to the venture shield. The 3m ppf has a clearcoat and you would wax and treat it the same as the rest of your car.

I am having mine done this week at a place that specializes in only the 3M line for all types of applications. They are called "Ultrashield of Richmond" in --you guessed it-- Richmond, Virginia. I live in the Northern Viriginia (Washington, D.C.) area, but I have been working on a contract in Richmond. In shopping around in the NOVA area, nobody came in under $650 for the same product. The cheaper ones used different manufacturers. The place in Richmond does it for $500. This includes the full bumper, hood and side mirrors. For $100 more they will also do the headlights. They do not use pre-cut kits. Instead they have a plotter that takes the 3M sheets and cuts it to the right shape based on the specs they get from 3M. I guess this is how they keep the price down. All of their technicians are 3M factory trained, and they have been doing it for the last six years. This is their only business, unlike most others that appear to be body shops or detailers.

I will let you know how it goes.

I ordered precut 3M material from www.clearmask.com and did both my wife's new TL and my new MDX. If you can follow directions and can handle a squeege, there is no reason to pay someone $250+ in labor to do this. I had never done it before and it took me less than two hours for each car. I had the same material on my old MDX and it worked great for 6 years.

When PPF is installed, the area is cleaned and stripped of any previous layer of wax. This creates a sterile work area so the adhesive side of the PPF will bond with with the surface. Maintaining and care of any PPF would be the same as maintaining the exterior of your vehicle. You can clay and wax/seal. It is not recommended to use an abrasive polish over it.

Ive been talking to a seller on ebay. They told me $60 shipped for the complete front bra. I just ordered a 2' x 2' piece so I can cut it out first and see how pliable it is (on the side skirt). I would recommend getting a piece on your sideskirts in front of the rear tires...

Had 3m put on about 2 days after buying TL (almost two years ago). Not one mark on the front end/hood/mirrors after several 500-600 mile road trips. I will ALWAYS have a clear bra on my cars rom now on.

I got a full 3M kit done on my new TL-S. $400. Dealer wanted $900.... told them no way. The place used a plotter as well. Full bumper protection, headlights, front fender area, hood protection, fog lights, rear view mirrors, and even the door handle cup area.

If it ever stops raining here in Seattle I'll take some pictures.
