Quick review of Conti Control Contact Sport SRS+ on my SH

Quick tire review. First picture is a big sidewall bubble in the 26k mile OEM MXM4s on my 2020 SH. It looked much worse in person. This happened about a month ago. I don’t know how it happened. Could have been a pothole, but I don’t recall recently hitting anything that bad. These tires are currently on forever back order, so I could not just replace a pair as would be recommended.

I therefore took the opportunity to replace all four tires. After some research, I chose to buy Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+. This is Discount Tire’s equivalent to the ExtremeContact DWS 06+; they are exactly the same with an exclusive tread pattern for Discount Tire. I’ve now had them on for 1000 miles and have driven them in essentially all four seasons (yay Cleveland) in the last three weeks. They are not as quiet as the MXMs but have superior dry grip to the MXMs even when new. Wet grip is excellent and resistant to hydroplaning in severe rains. So far, they tolerate light-moderate snow as well. Ride quality is minimally firmer than the MXMs and turn-in is superior, so dry handing is significantly better. So far, a solid choice. I paid just under $1300 installed. They are worth the money…it was only painful because I had to replace my wife’s tires the same week…was an expensive week…

Let us know how they feel once you get a few more miles on them. I did an alignment on my 18 RLX hybrid for the first time and some of the alignment points were out of spec. Hard to feel the alignment issue with mostly city driving and LKAS/RDM active with hwy driving.

I had the same out-of-stock/backorder issue when I got a pinch flat a 3 years ago and it took almost 2 weeks for a replacement tire and appointment at Discount Tires. I later got a spare OEM tire to use as an back-up replacement or full size spare if it happens again.

I only have 23,000 miles on my 18 RLX hybrid and probably be 2-3 more years before I need new tires. Leaning hard towards Conti DWS 06+ tires and planning to upgrade my 19 MDX hybrid to DWS 06+ in a few weeks.

Glad to see you're having the same experience that we had when moving to the DWS 06+ tires on the wife's RLX last summer. We don't drive them in the winter, but for dry and wet handling we have the same observation as you. Definitely a step up from the OEM MXM's in terms of bringing this heavy hybrid beast to life!

I have this same Continental tire model on my 2012 TL SH-AWD 6AT. I only tested them in the dry last summer and my review was:

I have a set of Enkei Raijin's with MXM4's and I firmly believe those tires are solely meant for fuel economy. They fail at grip, and squeal like pigs. The limit of the Continentals are vastly greater, and the grip vastly superior.

During the snowfall that we had, I was driving my 2011 TL SH-AWD 6MT, and the tires that it has are Toyo Extensa HP II. My review of the SH-AWD combined with these tires was:

I imagine that you'll love these tires after more experience with them, and will consider purchasing them again. I know for certain that I will.

The MXM4s are definitely tuned for low rolling resistance, and it shows.

No significant change in my fuel economy on the new Conti tires, BTW.

Usually. I like Michelins (I have a set of PS4S on my S2000 and would almost give my left nut to have a NSX-friendly set, but no luck) but the MXM4s were not that great.

So what is the verdict? Currentluy on my 2nd set of Michelins Sport A/S 3 Plus... they wear out pretty quick. I'm also usually a Michelin guy but want to try something different. Shopping at discount tire and looking either at Pilot Sport 4S or Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+.

JPadilla - I swapped out 4X OEM MXMs in relatively good shape at 28,000 miles (due to a puncture flat in 1 tire), then got just less than 30,000 miles on these Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ on my RLX-SH. That's what the tires were rated for so I don't think I am complaining ... I'm trying Pilot 4S now. Third set of tires.

All - Anyone else upsize 10mm to 255/40/ZR19 ? I find the delta is less than 0.5MPH at 60MPH on the speedometer. A little less gas mileage for a little more traction on rim protection, is what I am thinking.

Bob - Nice work keeping your rims clean and new looking. Zero rash? Way to go. And Discount Tire is awesome, right? Great company, great people, great culture, great service.

Bob; I maybe in the market for new tires. How are the Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+ treating you. Are you still recommending them? Thanking you in advance.

I just put 4 of these same Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+ on my 2016 RLX-SH Hybrid and they are fantastic. I upsized slightly to 255/40/19, as I've done since I first replaced the OEM Primacy MSMs with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I drove thru 2 sets of Pilots, but got a nail with 4-5/32" tread remaining and stopped by Discount Tire in Arizona for a free repair. I decided to replace the Pilot Sports since I was there with an appointment and a very short wait; and they because they offered me a good deal. My out-the-door price at Discount Tire in Arizona was $1032.93. The Conti's are quieter than the Michelins. I haven't noticed any difference in fuel efficiency. I'm still getting about 28 MPG after a week of driving. I'm a long time Michelin driver but I'd buy these Control Contact SRS+ again for sure.

It's fun to scroll up and see almost a decade of my driving life and 80,000+ miles in our earlier posts on this site. I've added a 2023 MDX-S to our family fleet, but this 2016 RLX has been sure a great car.

Anybody got a recommendation for wheels available at Discount Tire that would work well? I hate to admit it, but I haven't taken as good care of my rims as Bob has!
