Heater problem
Heater problem
Brought a 14 RLX about 5 months ago everything was good until winter time, At first the heat would only work on high so i looked under the hood and coolant was low topped it off in reservoir and it seemed to fix it. Then after that, I noticed passenger side would be cold while drivers side would be blowing out hot air if i turned the passenger dial up it would heat up but it would have to be on 77 and up while drivers side is on 73 blowing hot......now im getting no heat unless its on 80 and when i turn it on 80 i hear some kind of noise. like somethings clicking on..
I would suggest you get coolant completely drained and fllushed to insure there is complete flow through total cooling/heater core circuit if it hasn't been done recently. The noise you are hearing is probably the heater baffle door either being inactive due to either some part being blocked by debris or baffle actuator being broken. If that is the case, then I believe significant amount of labor to access the baffle/acuator will be necessary and I would suggest using a Acura dealer to diagnose the issue.

Do you have zero cabin heat or an issue like the OP listed above with baffle doors not directing heat? My Son's TSX had zero cabin heat and it was a bad mini hose from the radiator cap area to the coolant overflow reservoir. The bad hose was was sucking in air instead of coolant over time. The air would settle in the cabin heater core and zero heat from any of the vents (windshield, dash vents, or floor). Acura installed a new hose, purged air from cabin heater core, and no problems after that.
Thank you for the suggestion. I just checked and my overflow tube looks pristine.
The car will only blow tepid air, and only then after driving 30 minutes or so. (As a result I've been relying on my old Accord to get around since this cold snap hit.)
When troubleshooting, the first 3 things the interwebs say to check are coolant level, thermostat, or blower motor. Coolant is fine, blower blows quite hard. Thermostat worked well in the summertime with the A/C, and turning the heat up to "MAX" (that is, override the thermostat and blow the hottest air you can no matter what) doesn't change the temp of the air being blown, so I'm discounting a thermostat failure.
I've been wondering if it is a blend door issue, but there's been no signature "clicking" of a failed motor or gear. Also I could not find the blend door on a first attempt; it's not located where the blend door actuator is on the MDX or TLX. Guess it's time to go pay my $30 for 24 hours of access to Honda techinfo and download PDF's of the RLX service manual!
