Krell Audio Subwoofer BLOWN

So I was thinking about going aftermarket since they want $600 for a new krell subwoofer! Has anybody installed an aftermarket subwoofer and which sounds the best? I’m looking at one in specific that has a built in amp that I’ve included a link to below. I don’t want to rattle the whole trunk because I’m not that serious about the bass but it has to be real punchy. (Hopefully even more punchy than the stock krell). Any suggestions?

Krell Subwoofer Driver

These Krell Sub Drivers are listed in used speaker lots on eBay. You may be able to email them and get them to find the Sub Driver ONLY through the salvage parts electronic network from wreck yards.

KRELL Subwoofer

No
Thats not a Krell sub. That’s the Tech package speaker. A very cheap build quality compared to Krell.

From my research it appears that getting to the rear deck itself is very labor intensive and that krell subwoofer just by itself is pretty weak as it is. I usually stick to oem parts but I might have to go aftermarket with the sub after this disappointing loss. It’s a shame because while it lasted the krell sub wasn’t too bad and was enough to satisfy my audio craving. I just can’t see myself spending $600 at the dealer to replace the sub.

Rear Sub Deck Cover

Hey Peter

Do you have the instructions from the shop manual on how to remove the rear speaker grill ?

I would greatly appreciate the detailed info. I have a rattle from the grill area I need to quiet.

Thanks!!

Unfortunately I do not. From my research through the forum I’ve come across a few posts regarding the difficulty of the task. I have an 01 civic now and I know Honda makes it a little difficult but capable to get to the rear deck. I don’t understand why they couldn’t just have the speakers lift out from the top but it is what it is.

Krell Rear Sub

Honda does have it designed to lift out the rear speakers in the rear deck from the top. I’m sure the procedure is quite easy if you know exactly where to release the parts from their chassis. That’s the hard part or trick. Otherwise you break hundreds of dollars worth of dealer only parts.
