So as I couldn't sleep last night I was thinking about what technology might have an application in the automotive world that could be useful to a broad array of vehicles as well as be practical. What do you all think of any of these concepts?

• Self balancing wheels/tires: What if there were a very lightweight suspended rigid wire inside the tire next to the rim with a microprocessor controlled multiple 1-3 gram movable weight that maybe could be connected somehow to the TPM? This could figure out from the centrifugal forces exactly where that movable weight should be placed inside the rim to provide an absolutely perfectly weighted tire/rim combination. You would never have an out of balance tire again as you could never throw a weight off because of a pot hole.
• How about a clear coat that actually protected the paint from stone chips and could not be scared by a car wash: This must be possible with the chemists out there developing polymers that can resist high heat, cold, and vibrations.
• Additional MID information to show brake wear, washer fluid volume like the gas gauge does, battery charge and discharge history, etc...: It would seem that there are many additional items of measurement we could gather data from if we were interested in it.

Another idea that one of the RLX community suggested was to have more customization on what interior lights are on as well as the color and their intensities. That shouldn't be difficult to do at all. If you want all, some or none of the interior lights on (ambient) then you should have that choice. Lots of cars have this tech already but it is not mainstream yet. Just an idea.

I am really appreciating the 360 Camera features. I would love to have it linked to the security system that it activates should someone try to enter, damage or hit your car it records the situation to the hard drive. Not unlike a home or business security system. It would also save on insurance and offer evidence for claim mitigation.

 

My i3 gets road closures into gps. I don't believe that feature is in Acura yet.
Drove into SF last weekend and did not know that there was a race (Running) on the Embarcadero. It routed me around all the closures

great ideas, and nothing that seems impossible with today's technology.

#2 and #3 especially seem doable. But #1 might require a bit more. Probably haven't seen it yet in any cars due to either 1)cost (to produce at mass scale)...or 2)implementation design isn't "practical" enough yet (too many complex components to make durable during every-day normal use)

I'm surprised no car manufacturer have integrated the rear view mirror into the memory seating function. It's always the seats, steering wheel and outside mirrors only so we have to manually adjust the rear view mirror each time.

 

Nope, you're wrong. My 2004 Phaeton had this feature. In fact, it's one of the few features that never broke on the car.

#1 might be more doable that we think. I contacted a patent attorney today to check into it for me. Somebody has to have a prototype of this. I'm no inventor, just an idea guy.

 

Yes sir! I'm embarrassed for how dirty the car is. My first order of business when I can is to give the car appropriate attention. I checked out the 360 camera on the MDX. That is very cool technology.

I once thought I had a great idea. Night time driving glasses. A sort of sunglasses but with only a thin line of tint so that while you are driving at night with a very slight tilt of your head you could cut down on on-coming car lights. Turns out about 12 other related patents already existed.

I'd like to see cameras with displays on/above the dash replace side and rear view mirrors. Tesla tried this I think but was shot down by the government.

 

Brilliant idea. How about if you are just depressing the brake in a normal intensity the brake light comes on as it does now. If you are pressing it harder than normal the brake lights flash until you release the brake to a normal pressure. If you are engaged in threshold or ABS braking, the brake lights flash and the front headlights flash while the horn beeps in same manner so it warns the driver in front to brace themselves for impact? Also the Subaru self stopping technology is something that should be standard in every car. It would have likely prevented my accident.

 

All current Boeing aircraft are produced with a hydrophobic coating on the windshields to help with rain dispersion. Highly overrated IMO.
