RLX in minor wreck bad or not read (need to hurry)
I pulled up the autocheck on a car and saw it was in a MINOR accident. I called the guy and he said someone hit his fender (Minor according to him is $500 or less). So I pulled up the police report. The police report stated that he was turning in the right lane and the other car on his left turned along with him. The speed limit there was 15MPH and it states that the vehical was estimated going 10MPH. The Damage Level report they put down there was Damage Severity 2
If you look at this:
http://tmcpfs.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/cfpro...s/severity.pdf
But according to the police report it says it wasn't towed.
Bascially the guy whos car I want, sideswiped the guy that shouldn't have turned with him at 10MPH and only had damage to that 1 fender. That shouldn't be considered bad should it?

The Narrative says this:
Both units were on east bound aiport blvd., and in the double left turn lane, to enter springdale plaza shopping center. as both units were turning into the shopping center, unit #1 turned into the path of unit #2. Unit #1 struck unit #2. Unit #1 stopped and then left the scene without giving proper information. Unit #2 is the car I am looking at. From what I see in the illustration it looks like a minor bump.

Looked up the ratings in the Alabama DOT.
Level 1 NO damage not applicable
Level 2 Minor damage
Level 3 Major not disabled
Level 4 Major Disabled
guess it looks fine. going to leave in an hour to get it with no sleep.

Sounds minor. I hope you got some sleep before driving off.

But everybody will be able to see the same records you saw. Remember as you buy your car at a good price that the NEXT person will also get a good price because of the same record you just looked up.
:-)
If I liked the car otherwise, I would not be deterred by the record.
My comments assume your solid test drive and like of the car.

Any damage that does not involve the "frame" or drivetrain (engine/transmission) is cosmetic and should not affect the way the car drives and handles.
Just be sure the repairs were done well and the paint matches, etc. Minor damage like that won't affect the resale value to any large degree.

Unless you are buying it at significant disclunt, i wouldnt do it. My TL had very minor accident, nonetheless, it was reported to carfax. When I was trying to sell it, all the private buyers backed out and and 2 dealerships refused to buy it without me buying their car, saying because of the history they cant buy it and resell it and they have to take it to auction.

I hope that was a part of the premise.
Recognizing that even very good repair jobs carry a stigma, and knowing that the data is out there for everybody to see, your insurance company might very well offer to make up the difference between your reduced value trade in and the normal trade in value for a car in like condition.
State Farm did this for me in December 2009, when I got rid of my 2006 Accord 6-6 HFP Coupe (which was the victim of a parking lot hit and run of moderate severity).
When they first old me that, I was suspicious, but they lived up to it, without fuss or fight.

No seller is gonna tell you the car was "cut and shut", they are gonna make you believe it was just a scratch. Dont go by what they tell you. I personally would never buy a late model , expensive car with a bad carfax. JMHO.

I looked at the police report saw everything that happened read everything and made a decision based on that. I don't plan on selling the car ever, if I do it will be worthless like my lexus. When looking at the carfax it says take off $445 from the price of the car for the diminished carfax. I did get a discount from $39000 to $36,500 The only way I will get rid of it is 3 years from now if I decide to go with at 2016 lexus GSF used and the price of that car is decent and I get a decent trade in for mine then I might get rid of it.
