Rattle armrest

This car is super quiet, but I have persistent rattling that's driving me insane. Any of you have rattling in armrest area? If I put my right arm on armrest, rattle goes away. Any fixes for this? Interestingly I had same issue with my previous Lexus GS 350.

I haven't noticed a rattle with my armrest. I usually drive with arm on it most of the time.

With your arm resting on the armrest, you won't hear any rattles. It seems that the tray is vibrating against the door or something. Removing tray seems to lessen rattle, but does not eliminate it. I may have dealer look at it next time I'm in for oil change.

why not take some felt or some other type of padding and apply it to where it rubs????????????????????????????

you basically isolated where the noise is coming from, now take action.

pretty pointless to take it to the dealer....they'll most likely cant recreate the rattle and then tell you to go pound sand

Was planning on doing just that. I have some felt tape left from previous rattle fixes.

Can you post a pic of where you applied the felt? Just in-case my RLX develops the same rattle over time. Just hard to drive with the lockdown still going on.

Sure, I got to experiment a little bit to find where the tray and lid and touching and causing rattling.
You're still on lockdown? Life is pretty much back to normal in Southern California.

i find that some people use a stethoscope to pinpoint the rattle. Do you have any loose items in the armrest compartment?

Yes, I do store some items (charging cable, disposable gloves and masks, and small hand-sanitizer bottle). These are stored in zip lock bag so they shouldn't cause any rattle. But I noticed it was already rattling when I first purchase the car driving it home without anything in the arm-rest. It's something to do with the tray and lid.

If your car is within the 4 year 50K miles and you bring it to the dealer they should fix it for free.

Provided the techs don't come back with the old could not replicate story which seems to happen all too often these days. Unless it is obvious, many of these complaints get pushed aside. There are some great Acura repair teams out there. Hopefully your chosen dealership has some of them!

Here is what I found

I had a rattle coming from the center console that I was able to figure out once I got instructions on just pulling the ac vent assembly off the back of the center console.
There is a guide stick that is visible when you open the center console cover to the left or right.
That guide stick is what is rattling when the console is in the closed position.
There is a pad that is it supposed to rest on in order not to rattle but I had to add some duct tape that would barely contact the guide stick and keep it steady.
The top circle is the guide stick. The bottom circle is what I had to wrap with two layers of duct tape.
This is on a 2019.

I read this earlier but could not reply. Every time I tried to log in with my old account, it kept erasing my password when I click login.

Anyway I didn’t really have to use any tools to pull the cover off. Just started at the bottom and made my way up.

there are 6 clips holding it on and a cable to disconnect.

I was investigating if I could add a USB port to the back seat and found that guide stick loose and rattling just with the slightest touch.

I had heard noise coming from the center console and had planed on looking at what I had in there or the tray but turns out the noise stopped once I wrapped tape around that bottom portion circled above. I didn’t wrap anything on the guide stick itself as it needs to stay as is.

Just curious if this was tried by the original poster and if it was the issue.

Thank you so much! You solved one of three annoying noises I've been trying to diagnose. Holding the top of the console didn't help, and what seemed to help was me putting pressure on top of the rear air vents by about 80% of the rattle triggers. People at garage was wondering why I kept driving around in circles and not going to a different level.

It is possible. There is enough room to do it. You would need to source power wires for it. I think it can be done by running wires from the fuse box or taking apart the center console apart a little more and tapping into the current 12v accessory ports. This is my second RLX and I thought back on the first one and I only once had people in the back seat so I didn't do it. I was thinking to just put a 12v socket there so I could change from USB C and regular USB A as needed.
