Previous 14 RLX Advance owner possibly back
So I have a problem. I change cars like underwear so I’ll save time and not name them all over the last handful of years. Have jumped From Acura’s to V8 Supercharged Jags back to 14 RLX and now back to Jag. My 14 XJL V8 Supercharged is one sexy fast insanely unreliable beast. I’m dumping it because CPO warranty just ended and I recently lost my father so I was given his 12 Lexus IS-F. I do not need two high HP RWD V8 sedans. Anyways I’m thinking of going back to RLX and just drove a used 16 Advanced with 29k. I read all about the new suspension changes and was excited! Well I have to be honest, I feel like it still crashed over bumps, felt flinty, and genuinely gave a very un-luxury car like ride just like my 14. Now it did have new Velozza ZXV4 tires, which I had never heard of until today. I’m hoping that is the case, checked tire pressure on dash and they were all 34 so wasn’t dealing with that. What gives? Anyone have a 16+ who previously had a 14 and thinks it rides a lot nicer? I’m hoping it’s just the crappy no name tires. Sales guy is normal car guy like us and was embarrassed about the tires they put on. I really want to buy it but ya know, worried about the ride again. Thank you for any feedback.

First and foremost, I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad suddenly over 20 years ago and still think of him every day.
I too suffer from the same affliction of changing cars all the time. It has tested my wife’s patience on many occasions. I just get bored and need something else. I make very good financial decisions elsewhere in my life, but cars are the outlier for me...
I assume you are keeping your Dad’s IS-F and if so, you’ll love it. It’s a great machine. I’m considering the RC-F when the time comes to replace my RLX Sport Hybrid.
I too had a 2014 P-AWS RLX and couldn’t stand the suspension. Great on smooth roads and horrific everywhere else. I traded it in for a 2015 Sport Hybrid and noticed the suspension was better - not perfect but much better. I do believe the 2016’s made improvements so I’m thinking the tires might have played a big role in the ride quality of the car you drove.
I have to ask though was the 2016 you drove a P-AWS? Seeing you appreciate quick cars, have you ever driven the Sport Hybrid RLX? Despite the same sheet metal, it couldn’t be a more different driving experience. I highly recommend you trying one if you can find one. After my test drive, I had to buy it.

Appreciate the kind words.
Yeah yeah I love the IS-F, intake honk is great and it handles beautifully.
It wasn’t the hybrid it was the P-AWS. I’m figuring I don’t need the hybrid/extra speed because I have the IS-F to fill that void. None for sale around me to take for a spin so we’ll see. Maybe they’ll change out the tires and it will be better, here’s hoping.

Be sure to drive on all types of road surfaces to ensure you are satisfied, as the RLX is quite nice on smooth roads. I typically like to drive my usual commute as I know those roads well and therefore allows me to compare an apple to an apple.

OP... IMO, tires make very little difference in the ride. On my 14 PAWS RLX, I also still suffer from rattling dampers even after several TSB damper swaps.
But relevant to your question, I went to the trouble of changing wheels from 19 to 18 inch and higher profile tires, with no perceptible change in the harsh bump/impact suspension problem. The factory 19 inch and the 18 inch tires were Michelin touring type tires.
I eventually changed back to the factory 19's. It does seem the Pirellli Pzero A/S tires now on the car helps a very little bit to reduce the annoying impact jarring and suspension harshness. (But I emphasize very little bit again!).
FWIW, my personal opinion (and experience) is to avoid a PAWS RLX like the plague. At the same time, RLX SH owners are nearly unanimous in satisfaction with the car and I would consider one of those.

Well it sold at auction today, I will miss it for sure. Picking up 16 P-AWS RLX Advance tomorrow. Drove it for a few hrs around town and on freeway today, it rides fine. I’m not crying...you’re the one that’s crying.

Null and proud of it
Sorry to hear about your father. It sounds like the IS-F is a beautiful car! I drove a 2012 Base model a while back and really enjoyed it.
I think the RLX would really complement having the IS-F in the fleet!

I agree, thank you for the kind words.
Speaking of that, anyone know a good shipping company to get a car from Denver to Cleveland? The IS-F is in Denver right now at my step moms.

Hey neighbor (well, fellow Clevelander, anyway)! Congrats on the 2nd RLX. I can only comment that YES, you NEED two RWD V8 cars in your garage, but definitely not an unreliable Jag, LOL. Sorry to hear of your loss. How was dealing with Crown Acura? I've always used Motorcars on the other side of town and they've done me well.

Hey Bob, yes I remember you from previous years of Acura’s! I know I do need them but I’m trying to be responsible, ha. Crown was really great actually, dealt with Jason the sales manager and he couldn’t have been better. He sold my Jag at auction yesterday and it brought more money than any dealer was willing to give me. Also helping me get the IS-F back to Cleveland. My brother in law works for Motorcars Toyota if you ever need anything.
