A Little Help - Missing Key Fob
A Little Help - Missing Key Fob
My wife lost her key fob ($600 to replace). She feels it is in the car. I've scoured the car and can't find the key fob. The car will start and drive without a key fob (assuming her's is not in the car). She just drove the car 20+ miles from the house (she forgot to take my fob), turned the car off and started it back up. The only thing I can find is this...... https://vehiclechef.com/can-you-drive-without-key-fob/
It says you can drive 10 miles without a fob (Acura in general). My wife exceeded that by double.
Does anyone on the board have any information about driving the car without a key fob?
Thanking you in advance.

Bummer, I suggest you search the car again and pay attention to the not so obvious areas like door pockets. Before doing that however, and I suggest this from personal experience, have your wife empty out her purse and recheck it. I had a similar set of circumstances and the fob was in my wife’s purse all along but somehow was hidden by the purse lining.

I don't think you can start the RLX unless the fob is in the cabin or trunk? The walk away auto door lock will not work with a fob in the vehicle also? Sometimes when out and about, we leave the wife's purse with her fob in the trunk of the RLX (or MDX hidden hatch area) and I have to hit the lock button on my fob to secure.
We have the ebony interior with dark tinted windows. The interior is like a dark cave on the brightest days at best. I have a bright red fob cover for her so I can tell her keys from mine and make it easy to find in a hurry.

Apart from agreeing with others who have suggested that the key must be in the car for it to start - the only "hiding spot" that I can think of is the "not an ashtray" cubby with the sliding lid just under the heated/cooled seat buttons. I know that I have put things in there and then forgotten about them.
Good luck with your search.

I want to thank everyone who replied and offered suggestions. I scoured that car three times, no success. I really looked. Ten minutes and $20 later the key fob was found.
The wife told the kids that she thought the key fob was in the car and the finder would get a twenty. It took the youngest one 10 minutes and she came hopping into the house with the key fob, and the glitter of a twenty dollar bill in her eye. She got the twenty, I got the key fob.
It was jammed between the seat belt clasp and the seat on the console side of the drivers seat.
The car won't start without a key fob nearby.
Thanks to the group again.........

Great job mrsrobato! There is nothing like a little cash to incentivize kids.
For what it is worth, I bought some of those cheap fabric covered foam "gap fillers" that wedge in between the seat and the centre console with a hole for the seat belt receiver. Might be something to look into to prevent future searches.

I have Drop Stop gap fillers for both for my MDX and RLX. They are easy to install, slide up/back with the seat, and prevents everything down to dust size from falling between the seat: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BYH6C1E...d_asin_title_1
